Following a very busy July which saw the busiest month on record for our station, responding to a total of 37 incidents across 31 days, the trend has continued into August with 19 attended to date.

Most notably in this last week our firefighters have formed part of a large scale response to a number of wildfires, working alongside crews from all across the service to tackle these incidents and help protect homes, businesses, communities and the surrounding countryside.

We would also like to express our gratitude to the people and communities that have supported the response during this time, helping to keep access routes clear, following evacuation and safety advice or by simply showing their continued support and understanding.

Even though the weather has become cooler the risk of wildfires remains high and it is still important for residents and visitors to remain vigilant:

βœ… Avoid barbecues ot lighting fires of any kind, especially in or near areas that are already dry
βœ… Always ensure that when discarding ci******es they are completely extinguished
βœ… Pack a picnic or pasty instead
βœ… Take your rubbish home

Our warm, dry conditions are set to continue after a potential rain shower or two! We're still advising our residents and visitors:

βœ… Avoid barbecues and bonfires
βœ… Extinguish ci******es completely and dispose of safely
βœ… Pack a picnic or pasty instead
βœ… Take your rubbish home

While this dry and windy weather continues we are encouraging people to take extra care outdoors. Please avoid barbecues in open spaces, don't burn garden waste and dispose of ci******es properly.

Dry vegetation, low humidity and persistent winds mean fires can start very easily and spread fast with crews across the county battling a number of wildfires in recent days.

With summer well and truly here, it may be tempting for many to dust off the barbecue or head to the nearest supermarket for the temporary variety. Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service as part of the Fire Kills campaign is asking everyone to take care when cooking outside.

It is natural when the weather turns warmer to go outdoors, meet up with family and friends and light the barbecue. It is important therefore to remember that you have the correct tools for the job and to exercise patience if the barbecue proves difficult to light.

By following the Fire Kills campaign's top tips, you can ensure your barbecue is a safe, enjoyable event:

πŸ”₯ Never leave a lit barbecue unattended.
πŸ”₯ Follow the safety precautions provided with disposable barbecues.
πŸ”₯ Never use a barbecue indoors.
πŸ”₯ Make sure barbecues are kept away from sheds, fences, trees, shrubs and garden waste.
πŸ”₯ Keep children, pets and games away from the cooking area.
πŸ”₯ After cooking, make sure the barbecue is cool before moving.
πŸ”₯ Use enough charcoal to cover the base, but not more.
πŸ”₯ Empty ashes onto bare garden soil, not dustbins or wheelie bins. If they're hot they can melt plastic and cause a fire.
πŸ”₯ Enjoy yourself but don't drink too much alcohol when in charge of a barbecue.
πŸ”₯ Always keep a bucket of water, sand or a garden hose nearby for emergencies.

This list may seem long, however most of these things are common sense. Prepare well in advance and light the charcoal early, but most of all enjoy yourself safely!

This time last week we were delighted to be able to attend Penpol Fest.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the ask questions, say hello, explore our appliance and learn more about the work we do. It was a pleasure to be part of the event and meeting so many community on-call firefighters of the future!

We are always keen to attend events like these as they are a great opportunity to connect with the people we serve, inspire the next generation of firefighters and strengthen the relationship between the fire service and our community.

A huge thank you to Penpol School for inviting us and all the volunteers who helped make the event possible!
