🌧️☔ Despite the rainy and wet weather last weekend, our Detox residents were determined not to let it stop them getting out and about!

A huge thank you to John, who led the way on the walk in his full wet-weather gear, helping everyone make the most of the fresh air and countryside.

Back indoors, the creativity continued as residents spent time making beautiful jewellery for themselves and their loved ones, before rounding off the day with a cosy movie evening complete with popcorn. 🍿💎

Recovery is about finding joy in the little moments, whatever the weather, and it was wonderful to see everyone making the most of the weekend together. 💙

In June our lovely fundraiser Carolyn, went along to Penryn to be presented with a cheque from the outgoing Mayor, Mary May. The donation of £3,000 was raised at various events hosted by the Mayor over 12 months and it is the second time Bosence has been selected as the Mayor’s chosen charity.

It has been agreed to spend some of the funds on refurbishing the pottery with two new electric wheels and some smaller table top wheels as well.
Our support worker, Zena, is overseeing the upgrade to the pottery and holding two sessions on Thursday afternoons for residents from detox and rehab. Once the pieces are glazed and fired they can be taken home by residents when they
leave.
We must extend our thanks once again to Matt for making the pottery sessions an important part of life at Bosence for over 11 years. Matt will now be continuing his career as Curator of the Leach Pottery in St Ives and has also taken over Rosudgeon Pottery – so exciting times for him.
Here are a few pieces recently created by residents under Zena’s fantastic tutorship ✨

At the start of the month, our clinical lead Sam and Independent Nurse Prescribers Sara and Faye attended the Non-Medical Prescribers Forum (NSMNFP) South West Educational Day.
The day provided a valuable opportunity to network with fellow prescribers from across the region, share clinical experiences and learn from current practice.

Pain management was a key focus, with the Royal Devon & Exeter team delivering an informative session exploring the challenges of managing pain alongside substance dependence. This was particularly relevant to our service, where we
regularly support people with complex and overlapping clinical needs. There was also a focus on the increasing use of ketamine and the role of nurse-led interventions. This is an area we are seeing more frequently within our own practice, making the discussion particularly timely and useful.
Other sessions included Buvidal and psychological support, complex case discussions and updated DHSC guidance around rapid prescribing.

Overall, it was a really useful day, providing opportunities to share ideas, reflect on our practice and bring new learning
back to the team.

This year’s ADHD Awareness Month theme, “A Community of Support,” highlights the importance of connection, understanding and encouragement.

At Bosence, we know that many people affected by drug and alcohol addiction may also be navigating ADHD. Recovery is never something anyone should have to face alone. With the right support network, people can better understand their challenges, build on their strengths, and create lasting positive change.

💚 This ADHD Awareness Month, let's celebrate the power of community, compassion and support in helping people. For more information please see the ADHD awareness month website: https://www.adhdawarenessmonth.org/

Robin’s journey is a powerful reminder that recovery is possible, one step at a time.

🏃‍♂️ From recovery to 30km! 🏃‍♂️

Robin, a former Bosence resident, is now 21 months clean and sober and taking on an incredible challenge to give back to the place he says helped save his life.

On 15th January 2027, Robin will run 30km, training from scratch . Through this challenge, he hopes to raise £1,000 for Bosence Farm, helping others access the same life-changing support he received.

We're incredibly proud of Robin for turning a difficult anniversary into something positive, inspiring and full of hope. 💚

If Robin's story has inspired you, please consider making a donation. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help Bosence continue supporting people on their recovery journey and give others the chance to rebuild their lives.

👉 Please donate using the JustGiving link below and help Robin reach his £1,000 fundraising target.

"They're still going to work. They're still paying the mortgage. So why does it feel like I'm losing them?"

This is something we hear from families and friends a lot.

From the outside, everything can look fine. They go to work, pay the bills, show up for family occasions and keep life moving forward.

So you start to wonder:

"Maybe I'm making too much of it."

But deep down, you know something has changed.

They're less present. Conversations are harder. Plans revolve around alcohol. You find yourself making excuses, clearing up the consequences, or wondering which version of them you'll get.

Perhaps the hardest part is that you miss them, even though they're sitting right there.

That's one of the cruel things about alcohol dependence. You don't always lose someone all at once. Sometimes you lose little pieces of them: their attention, their patience, their spontaneity, and their ability to be fully present.

Because they're still "functioning", it can be difficult to say:

"This isn't okay anymore."

But you don't need a crisis to justify your concern. You don't have to wait for someone to lose their job, home, or relationships before recognising that alcohol is causing harm.

If someone you love is drinking in a way that worries you, trust your instincts. You're not being dramatic, and you don't have to face it alone.

At Bosence, we understand that addiction affects the whole family, not just the individual.

Sometimes recovery starts with three simple words:

"I'm worried about them."

If that's you, it's okay to ask for help too.
