Flood Warning for South Hayling

High tides are expected to cause flooding on Wednesday.

Flooding is expected for 2 hours either side of Wednesday afternoon's tide at 12:21 on 28/10/2026.

The weather increases tide table values by 0.22 m. Total forecast tide is 5.23 metres Chart Datum (2.50 mAOD) at Portsmouth. Light Westerly Force 3 wind. South Hayling beach (towards Eastoke) has been affected by previous storms. Water could push further up the beach than normal. Property at Eastoke corner, near the nature reserve, and at Southwood Road may flood. Overtopping of splash walls along the beach front may flood gardens. Beach huts at West Beach, near the Inn on the beach, may also be affected. Thursday's tide at 00:45 on 29/10/2026 is forecast to be 50 cm lower (2 mAOD).

Flooding information and advice for the area: Coast at South Hayling including West Beach, Hayling Beach, Sea Front, South Eastoke, Sandy Point and Black Point.

Never drive through flood water 🚗

Just 30cm (1ft) of moving water can be enough to float a car.

If a road is flooded, don’t risk it. Turn around and find another route. The water could be deeper and faster flowing than you realise.

If you get stuck in flood water by the coast or see someone in trouble, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Storm Austen is set to bring disruptive wind and rain ⚠️

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind across parts of southern England and Wales for Friday 23 October.

Gusts could reach 50-60mph, and coastal and exposed areas could see 70mph or more.

Stay safe at the coast:

• Stay away from cliff edges as sudden gusts can cause you to lose balance

• Avoid standing directly beneath cliffs as rocks and debris can fall

• Keep back from the shoreline and look out for large breaking waves

Visit the HM Coastguard website for more advice on staying safe at the coast.

Digging in the sand might seem harmless, but deep holes and tunnels can quickly become dangerous 🏖️

They can leave you stranded or quickly fill with water, and deep tunnels can collapse suddenly.

Please avoid digging holes deeper than waist height, and always fill them in before you leave to prevent others getting injured.

The Hayling Island Team practice core skills on a Wednesday evening, but as it was so hot yesterday, we decided to drive over to Portsmouth to complete a local knowledge patrol.. The thing is, and I am not sure how this happened, but we ended the patrol with a lovely Ice Cream!🍦 🤣
