📢 Have your say on the future of Great Yarmouth – consultation closes 16 October

You may have seen information about the new Local Plan for Great Yarmouth and wondered why we are asking for your views when the Council has recently adopted a Local Plan.

👉 This is a different Local Plan.

The Council’s adopted Local Plan covers 2024–2042 and sets out the planning framework for the borough, including where development should take place and the policies used to determine planning applications.

The consultation now underway is about the next Local Plan, which will look ahead to 2045. It is being prepared because the Government has introduced significant changes to the national planning system, including a revised method for calculating housing need. As a result, Great Yarmouth has been given a new housing target, requiring the borough to plan for around 3,500 additional homes, on top of the approximately 7,000 homes included in the current Local Plan.

🏘️ But no sites have been selected and no decisions have been made.

At this early stage, we want to hear what issues you think should be considered as the new Local Plan is developed – including housing, jobs, infrastructure, community facilities, green spaces, the environment, flooding and coastal management.

We are also inviting residents, landowners and developers to suggest sites that could potentially be considered for housing, employment, community uses or Local Green Spaces.

📅 The consultation closes on Friday 16 October 2026.

Your views will help shape the issues and priorities considered as the next Local Plan progresses.

Last week was a busy week down at the Playingfield we worked with Community Payback (Norfolk probation service) to clear the alleyway between common road and the playingfield. The hedge also had its an annual trim.

This week the new floodlights are being installed on the Playingfield following the other ones being condemned. We have been contacted by local football clubs wishing to train on our facilities. The Parish Council are also looking to purchase some goals.

🚨 Doorstep trader alert! Residents in Great Yarmouth have been approached at the door by a trader offering to clean gutters.

Have you been approached? Do you have any details of the traders and the vehicle they are travelling in? Call us via Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0808 223 1133.

‼️ Please share! They may still be in the area, or they could have moved on elsewhere in the County.

Our normal advice is to never agree to anything, including a home visit, when approached by a cold caller on the phone, at your door or via email. Do your research first, and find out if it is a product or service that you want or require.

While it might be tempting to agree to low prices being offered on the doorstep, think twice.

▪️ never agree to have any work done as a result of a cold call, and don't be pressurised into having the job done immediately
▪️ if you think work needs doing to your home, get quotes from 2 or 3 traders. Ask friends and family for recommendations of traders who have carried out work for them. You can also check Norfolk Trusted Trader for traders that have been vetted and approved by us (link in the comments ⤵️ )
▪️ ask for the full name & address from a trader before considering dealing with them, and never rely solely on a mobile phone number
▪️ ask for a written quotation detailing all the proposed work and a final price for the job BEFORE the work is started
▪️ only pay in full once the work is completed to your satisfaction and PLEASE don't pay cash

Report all doorstep callers to us via Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0808 223 1133. If you feel threatened call 999.
