We don’t usually post a single picture or video, without a huge explanation of what we have been doing, but this speaks for itself.

Today we have to share our new illuminated intruder alarm bell box.

WOW 🤩 look how sleek it is. Shiney and black and ILLUMINATED

This week we have been to a large nightclub in the South, we were asked to have a look at the issues the system is having.
On our arrival we found the system had over 26 disablements on the system and was indicating 14 fires.
On investigation it was found that the system is 27 years old with a lot of the old detection in place, which has long out lived its life expectancy and is now causing issues on the system. Numerous devices are failing and some equipment has been replaced with the wrong type, resulting in further issues.

We have been to a large site in the Midlands where we have spent three days investigating faults and issues on the fire alarm system.

The end of the week we were in Manchester and Warrington where we replaced a faulty failing fire panel and carried out a full recommission. We carried out some investigation works on another site.

One interesting find was a detector that had been fitted on a site as it had been raised on a report that it was required due to the risk in the area, on our audit it was found to only have been fitted to the ceiling and not actually wired, resulting in it never being able to work.
on previous visits by the service provider, this has device has passed inspection every time ? Which is impossible
We don’t cut corners we find problems and offer solutions, this has clearly been fitted to ‘look’ the part while offering no protection from fire at all.

This week has seen us busy doing what we do best, fault finding and investigation works on numerous types of systems.

We started the week with a Vesda unit
(Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus), which has been in fault for around six years and the incumbent contractor has failed to clear the issues, the reasons for this are unknown. Our client who we carry out specialist work for, contacted us to see what we could do with the system and if it needed replacing.
On investigation it appears it has not been maintained correctly and recalibrated incorrectly. We carried corrective action to rectify certain issues with the unit and are happy to say that the first time in years, the unit is fault free and operating correctly.
This job was carried out on Monday, and was still clear on Friday when we contacted our client to follow up on its condition.
Off the back of this we have secured an ongoing maintenance agreement for the biannual servicing of the system.

Another job this week included attending a school that required an additional interface fitting, on arrival the system was showing a fault which prevented us being able to carry out the requested works.
Our work order was uplifted for investigation and rectification which uncovered more issues, the system has not been maintained for the past 30 months, there were no text descriptions and the standby batteries were past their recommended replacement date.

We managed to insert the descriptors into the system based on documentation on site, replaced the batteries and repaired the fault, this allowed us to complete the works we originally attended for.
We also carried out a maintenance visit to ensure the system was working correctly and to keep the customer compliant.

We ended the week tracing out a cable fault on a very large fire alarm system at a meat processing factory in South Yorkshire, we managed to trace the fault to a section of the building and narrowed it down to two specific machines interfaces.
The cables have been damaged where they pass through a metal flooring plate, the cable protection was dismantled to reveal the damaged cabling.

We replaced the wiring for that section of the system, we rerouted and installed new containment to protect the new cabling.

A very productive week with much of the same this upcoming week.

It’s been a couple of weeks since we posted, and the truth is, we are that busy, we haven’t found the time to update what we are up to.

We have been all over the north of England carrying out repairs and fault investigation on both fire and security systems, on the security side of things we have pinned down multiple issues with a system that is in a very poor state, this took up several days of investigation, we have pinned down all the faults and submitted a report for rectification works.

Other works have included installing a key switch interface to run a command for last man out on a large fire system.

We have had a meeting with a client to discuss a potential contract they are picking up and would like our involvement for initial inspection compliance visits on the sites.

Other meetings have included having us project manage two very large system upgrades, one in West Yorkshire for approximately 20 weeks and another in the midlands for around 6 months.

We have also been approached to carry out some specialist work on several local systems.

To finish things off we have been keeping our skills sharp and carrying out CPD and training to ensure we keep up to date with current legislation, and compliance requirements, we need to stay compliant and up to date to keep our customers compliant and legal.

Very busy again this past week, we have been carrying out some CPD on hazardous substance classifications, enrolled for digital fire detection week for more CPD to keep us current and up to date with the ever evolving fire safety legislation.

We have carried out fault finding and investigation works on numerous systems around South Yorkshire and the Midlands.

We have completed Panel replacements and upgrades in West Yorkshire along with some serious fault finding in Pontefract requiring some specialist diagnostics tools and software.

Investigation works are one of our strengths and we love a challenge, if you have issues on a fire system you can’t bottom out or as an end user and you need your system checking or repairing to be compliant, give us a call.

This past week has seen us hit the ground running after a few days away for some R&R

Time off was fantastic, but fire doesn’t take holidays and as such we had a huge amount of work needing our attention.

We started the week over at Skelmersdale in the North West, where a dead panel required replacing in an office block, system was changed and programmed and all tested okay.

Tuesday and Wednesday saw us down in Derby, tracing a critical system fault on a multi network system, we found multiple cables for the system heavily UV damaged and split insulation, we pinned the fault down to a 60m section of cable on a roof plant deck, we isolated the damaged section and have got the system running again, the customer has been quoted to replace the damaged section with a further recommendation to replace all the other cable that is UV damaged.

We got an emergency callout on Wednesday while traveling back from Derby at a school in West Yorkshire, the incumbent provider had attended the site on Tuesday to replace a faulty detector, in the process they managed to damage a cable, and blow a very expensive loop driver card, resulting in the site being closed on the Tuesday and Wednesday, we were asked if we could offer support by one of our customers that had been called in to see if they could rectify the issue, as the incumbent had left site with no fire protection and no timeframe for rectification.
Luckily we had the parts required and skillset to get the system back up and running which would allow the school to open on the Thursday, the works took us late into Wednesday night, but we have a very satisfied customer.

On Thursday we were working alongside a local company in East Yorkshire at an animal feeds factory carrying out repairs, recalibration and recommissioning of an air sampling unit and fire beams.

Friday we were back in the Midlands at Nottingham carrying out repairs to a door access control system which had failed.

If you need fire systems maintaining, repairing, commissioning or require an audit, investigation or have issues with your system give us a call, it’s what we specialise in, we have the software, skills, knowledge, experience.
We will be open with what the issues are and advise on a solution to get your system and premises compliant and legal.

This past week has seen us all over the Yorkshire region again with an excursion to Oxford.

We have carried out a full clean and re commission of an air sampling system in a food processing plant in the York area.
The system was not detecting or pulling air correctly and was in a very poor state due to poor maintenance in the past. This system is now fully up and running and detecting correctly within permitted ranges and times we also carried out some rectification works to some loop devices on the same system.

We don’t like to show poor work, but unfortunately this week we were asked to look at a system that has been poorly installed and maintained, multiple issues were found with the system, and reported to the client.

We visited two sites in Sheffield one to rectify an air sampling unit which was in fault and another to carry out routine maintenance and testing with the help of Spider-Man.

Our trip to Oxford was to assist with a site we have carried out numerous works on in the past. This visit was to decommission multiple parts of the older system after over 80% of the site has had an upgrade. I believe we will not be required at this site again as the last 20% of the system is marked for upgrade in October.
Our client has however asked if we would be interested in getting involved with another site in Oxford, with a closed system installed, of course we would be happy to assist them in any way we can.

Last week we were all over the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire region, a little bit more relaxed than previous weeks.

We have attended some school sites to commission on addition interfaces for door release in fire, many sites across the country are now being picked up for lacking BS7273-4 compliance.

We have visited a care home in Cleethorpes to advise on an upgrade and to bring the system upto BS5839-1 requirements, unfortunately the current provider has missed many non compliant parts of the system and failed to correctly inform the premises, or make recommendations which has resulted in the fire service being involved and the potential for enforcement action.

We work closely with the fire and rescue services and if required, we can work as an intermediary between a site and enforcement to produce a time line and solutions to keep both parties happy, while working towards fire safety compliance.

Other works this week included fitting key switches to reduce live sounder activations while carrying out weekly tests on wireless systems to reduce overall maintenance costs

We finished the week off with a phone call from a facilities management company who have requested our services to assist with fault rectification and compliance services in the Yorkshire region. Happy to say we have signed them on as a customer.

Another busy week this week, we have attended multiple schools across West Yorkshire to carry out programming and Commissioning of multiple new devices following either building alterations or division of large rooms into smaller rooms to accommodate more pupils.

Some sites are having upgrades to the access control systems requiring additional interfaces to release doors in the event of fire.

Other works have included working in an underground carpark and tunnels to diagnose issues with the system regularly going into fault, we found some devices with water damage and others with heavy oxidisation due to environmental conditions, we have produced a plan and presented to our client for recommended remedial works.

All in all a successful and productive week with much of the same next week, the school holidays are always busy times for us here at Phoenix with lots of work to compete, but with limited time.

We don’t have much space in the diary between now and Christmas which is a blessing as well as a curse, as we don’t like letting people down and want to accommodate everyone where we can.

This week has seen us for the majority of the week, busy carrying out a special inspection and audit of a site in North Yorkshire.

This site has been maintained by the former service provider for many years and unfortunately to a poor standard, we have found some devices not working, areas lacking sounders, and batteries dated 2013 and 2018, with some heavily corroded.

We will compile a full report with recommendations for our client and aim to get the system in full, compliant working order.

Other works this week included visiting a car dealership in Wakefield to replace a damaged call point, carry out some air sampling maintenance and testing in Manchester, install an additional PSU to support an upgraded system in Warrington and last but not least we carried out some additional device programming and commissioning in a school in Sheffield
