The imposing ruins of Peveril Castle stand high above the pretty village of Castleton in the heart of Derbyshire’s Peak District. Mentioned in the Domesday survey, Peveril Castle is one of England’s earliest Norman fortresses. A climb to the castle at the top of the hill to enjoy the breathtaking views over the Hope Valley is a highlight of a family day out in Castleton. Explore the remains of the keep including the garderobe (medieval toilet)! Displays in the visitor centre tell the story of Peveril as the administrative focus of the Royal Forest of the Peak, a royal hunting preserve since the 11th century. Don't Miss:

⚠️Site closure .

The weather forecast is looking poor over the next few days, strong winds above Peverils safe opening limit mean we expect to close .

Our current plan is as follows:

🍂 Saturday 24 October: Peveril Castle will be closed . We are hoping to keep our shop open until 3.00pm -this may change .

🍂 Sunday 25 October: The full site is expected to be closed all day.

⚠️ These are precautionary measures for now, and we’ll confirm our opening arrangements each morning.

It’s that ‘time’ again !
Clocks change tomorrow Saturday 24th October .
Peveril castle will be closing at 4.00 pm -last admission 3.15 pm depending on light conditions.

Have you heard ? Listen closely 🤭

After the success of our June Peveril Picnic and Paint day we are delighted to offer a Picnic & Paint weekend on 8th & 9th of August 🎨🥪🍇☕️.

All are welcome -beginners,experienced or professional ,family groups ,picnics and doggies( on a lead of course!)

Bring along a sketchpad ,an easel,paints ,pencils ,pastels or crayons -it’s up to you . 🏰 hopefully sun hats too !

Free admission to participants .

☀️When planning your visit to Peveril Castle in next few days please prepare for and take heed of extreme high temperature warnings . The walk up to the castle can be exhausting .We would advise that your Doggies are left at home .🐶☀️

We have just got to share this with you all !

Beth and the team have created the most phenomenal,amazing ,stunning depiction of Peveril castle and its story for their Tideswell well dressing .
It will be on display until Saturday if the predicted hot weather doesn’t play havoc 🤞🤞
