Burbage Beat Team

Following an increase in reports of residential burglaries and vehicle thefts during the October half-term period, officers have been carrying out targeted evening and overnight patrols across Burbage.

These patrols involve a range of officers and vehicles, focusing on deterring criminal activity, providing reassurance to the community, and identifying those responsible for offences.

With Halloween celebrations taking place, we are also conducting dedicated patrols to help prevent anti-social behaviour and keep our communities safe. We've already achieved a positive result that we hope will prevent further issues over the coming days.

Please continue to remain vigilant: 🏠 Ensure doors and windows are locked, even when you're at home.
🚗 Remove valuables from vehicles and always lock your car.
🔑 Keep keys out of sight and away from doors and windows.
💡 Consider using security lighting, alarms, or CCTV where possible.

If you witness a crime in progress or see suspicious activity taking place, call 999 immediately. For non-emergency reports or intelligence, please use 101 or report online.

🚨 Community Safety Message - Burbage 🚨

We are aware of a recent increase in residential burglaries and vehicle thefts in the Burbage area. Reports indicate that offenders are targeting high-value vehicles, as well as cash, jewellery and other valuable items within homes where residents are on holiday.

Local officers are actively responding to these incidents through:

✅ Targeted high-visibility patrols in affected areas
✅ Directed investigations to identify and apprehend offenders
✅ Intelligence-led policing activity
✅ Crime reduction visits and support for residents who may be vulnerable to becoming victims

Protecting Your Vehicle

If you own a high-value vehicle, please consider the following:

🔒 Always lock your vehicle and ensure windows are fully closed
🔒 Store keys well away from doors, windows and letterboxes
🔒 Consider using a signal-blocking pouch (Faraday pouch) for keyless entry vehicles
🔒 Use additional security devices such as steering wheel locks, immobilisers or tracking devices
🔒 Park in a garage where possible, or in a well-lit area covered by CCTV
🔒 Never leave valuables or vehicle documents inside the vehicle

Going Away on Holiday?

With cash and jewellery being targeted, please take extra precautions before leaving home:

🏠 Ensure all doors and windows are secure before you leave
🏠 Avoid advertising holidays or travel plans on social media until you return
🏠 Use timer switches on lights to make your property appear occupied
🏠 Ask a trusted neighbour, friend or family member to keep an eye on your home
🏠 Store jewellery, cash and other high-value items in a safe or consider alternative secure storage arrangements
🏠 Cancel regular deliveries or arrange for them to be collected

Today officers from the beat team have been out and about completing enquires and following up on beat priorities 🔎 .
This morning a call came in from an eagle eyed member of the public in relation to suspicious vehicle in the Nailstone area.
On arrival officers discovered Bully's Special Prize..........
A speedboat!!!!! that had been dumped along with bags of rubbish inside it. 🚤
This has now been taped up to prevent further calls and passed over to street cleansing at HBBC.
Although given the recent weather it might become the new beat vehicle 🚓

Community Safety - Vehicle Crime Prevention

We've received reports of suspicious activity in and around Hinckley during the early hours of the morning, including CCTV footage showing unidentified individuals checking parked vehicles and trying door handles in residential streets. Also vehicles often in convoy driving around targeted locations.

There have also been reports of car key break-ins and concerns around keyless vehicle thefts. Opportunist offenders are often looking for unlocked vehicles, valuables left inside, or attempting to target vehicles fitted with keyless entry systems.

How keyless vehicle theft works 🚗

Criminals may use electronic devices to capture or relay the signal from your key fob inside your home to your vehicle outside. This can trick the vehicle into thinking the key is present, allowing access and, in some cases, enabling the vehicle to be driven away.

How to protect your vehicle

✅ Always lock your vehicle, even when parked on your driveway.

✅ Double-check doors are secure before leaving your vehicle.

✅ Remove valuables and personal items from sight.

✅ Keep keyless entry fobs away from doors, windows and external walls.

✅ Store keyless car keys in a signal-blocking pouch (Faraday pouch) or metal container when not in use.

✅ If possible, enable additional security features such as steering wheel locks, immobilisers, alarms or tracking devices.

✅ Ensure any home CCTV or doorbell cameras are operational and positioned to capture activity around parked vehicles.

Please remain vigilant

If you notice anyone acting suspiciously around parked vehicles, checking door handles, looking into vehicles, or loitering in residential areas during the early hours, please report it. If safe to do so, note descriptions, locations, vehicle registrations, and retain any CCTV footage.

If a crime is in progress or there is an immediate threat, call 999. For non-emergency incidents, report via 101 or at : https://leicspolice.link/qxImM

Together we can help protect our neighbourhoods and reduce opportunities for vehicle crime.

Stay safe

🚓 A Busy Week on the Beat! 🚓

It's been another varied week across the beat, with officers keeping busy supporting our communities and responding to incidents.

🚗 Road Traffic Collision - We attended a collision where a vehicle had left the roadway. Thankfully, only minor injuries were sustained by the driver, who was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure to be checked over. The vehicle was recovered from the scene.

📨 Community Warning - A warning letter was issued to a local resident in relation to reported cannabis use following enquiries.

🛒 Shop Theft Result - A big well done to an off-duty officer who detained a male following a shop theft from the local Co-op. Officers from Market Bosworth attended to assist and, following a search of the male's vehicle, over £140 worth of stolen goods were recovered and returned to the store. Great teamwork all round! 👏

👮‍♂️ High Visibility Patrols - We've continued carrying out high visibility patrols in areas identified as anti-social behaviour hotspots. If you see us out and about, please stop and say hello! 👋

📋 Crime Enquiries - Officers have also been progressing crime enquiries, following up lines of investigation and supporting victims.

🛵 Moped Advice - We spoke with a young male who was riding a moped around the area without a helmet. Advice was given regarding road safety and the legal requirements. A helmet might not be the latest fashion trend, but it's certainly the smartest accessory! ⛑️😉

🏫 School Engagement - We attended a local school to gather information and intelligence regarding recent reports of fights in the area, working with partners to help keep young people safe.

💜 Supporting Victims - We spoke with a victim of domestic abuse and ensured appropriate support and safeguarding advice was offered.

🏘️ Neighbour Disputes - Several neighbour disputes were also dealt with throughout the week, with advice and guidance provided where necessary. Remember, good fences make good neighbours... but a friendly conversation helps too! 😊

🐶 And finally... our newest recruit... A dog was found near Sheepy and, for a short while, we became the proud owners of a four-legged station mascot! 🐾

Affectionately named "Patches" by officers, he settled into station life remarkably quickly and appeared ready to take on operational duties. Unfortunately, his policing career was short-lived as he was collected by the dog warden and safely taken into their care. We wish PC Patches all the best in his future adventures! 🦴🚔😂

As always, thank you for your continued support. If you have any concerns in your area, please report them to us through the appropriate channels.
