110 floors. Full fire kit. One powerful reason to keep climbing.

To mark the 25th anniversary of 9/11, eight firefighters from Taunton Fire Station, Bridgwater Fire Station, Tiverton Fire Station, Bampton Fire Station - Devon, Wells Fire Station and our Training Academy took on the Terry Farrell firefighters fund memorial stair climb.

The team travelled from Devon to Atlanta to take on the incredibly challenging 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, completing 110 floors in full fire kit.

It was tough, hot and emotional but every step was taken in memory of the 343 firefighters who lost their lives serving their community.

Weโ€™re incredibly proud of you all. What an achievement and a fitting way to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The climb raised money for Fire Fighters Charity and the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund.

9/11 โ€“ We Remember

Today, we remember the 2,977 innocent people who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001.

We honour the victims, the survivors, the families who continue to live with loss, and the countless communities forever changed by that day.

We also pay tribute to the extraordinary bravery of the firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and emergency responders who put themselves in harmโ€™s way to save others, many making the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities.

As members of the fire and rescue family, we stand with our colleagues around the world in remembering those who were lost and recognising the courage, compassion, and resilience shown in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

Twenty-five years on, we continue to honour their memory.

We will remember them

One appliance from Holsworthy was mobilised to assist a family whose car had locked itself with the keys and a dog inside.
On arrival our crew used small tools and gaining entry equipment to open the car and safely return Maxi the miniature dachshund back to his owners.
Our resident dog lover Firefighter Goodman couldnโ€™t resist a photo with Maxi. ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ“ธ

Shortly afterwards while mobile returning back to station we were assigned and mobilised to another incidentโ€ฆ ๐Ÿšจ

Bude crews were in attendance first and shortly followed by our crew. The fire was confined to a small area of the barn, the cows were safe and unharmed. Crews used 6 x breathing apparatus, hose reels jets, ladders and various tools to bring the incident under control. Our crew returned back to station just after 17:00 to service and replenish equipment.

Can you smell smoke?

Weโ€™re getting lots of calls from residents across north Devon concerned about a smell of smoke.

Please be reassured we have no current incidents in the area. The smell is likely to be carried across from the ongoing wildfire in south Wales.

We completely understand why residents will be concerned and alert at the moment.

Please only call if you see evidence of a fire, such as smoke or the fire itself.

๐ŸŒ˜ Heading out to watch the eclipse tonight? ๐Ÿ”ญโœจ

Weโ€™re all looking forward to getting outside and enjoying it too, but after such a long, hot and dry spell, our countryside is extremely vulnerable to fire.

So if youโ€™re heading to the beach, countryside or finding the perfect viewing spot, please help us out:

๐Ÿฅช Pack a picnic, not a BBQ โ€“ even a small spark or hot disposable BBQ can start a wildfire in these conditions.

๐Ÿšญ Take extra care with ci******es and dispose of them properly.

๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ Take your rubbish home โ€“ particularly glass, which can be hazardous when left in the countryside.

๐Ÿ”ฅ No campfires or open flames, however tempting it might be.

๐Ÿ“ž If you spot a fire, get somewhere safe and call 999.

Wildfires can spread incredibly quickly and tie up fire crews and resources across the county. A little bit of care tonight can make a big difference.

Picnic packed. Eclipse glasses ready. BBQ left at home. ๐Ÿ‘

Enjoy the eclipse, North Devon and help us keep our beautiful countryside safe. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿš’

Statement from bideford town council

๐Ÿšจ Life-Saving Defibrillator Stolen

We are saddened to report that the public access defibrillator, including its protective cabinet, was stolen overnight from outside Bideford Fire Station.

This is an incredibly disappointing theft. A defibrillator is a vital piece of life-saving equipment that could mean the difference between life and death in a medical emergency.

If you have any doorbell, CCTV or dashcam footage from the area that may assist the investigation, please report it to Devon & Cornwall Police online at https://www.devon-cornwall.police.uk/ro/report/ocr/af/how-to-report-a-crime/ or call 101.

If you need to locate the nearest publicly accessible defibrillator in an emergency, visit The Circuit Defib Finder at https://www.defibfinder.uk/ and call 999, where the ambulance service can direct you to the nearest available device and provide the access code if required.

Thank you for your help in protecting facilities that are there for the benefit of our whole community.

Originally one appliance from Holsworthy was mobilised to a reported Fire In The Open, whilst on route further information received at fire control that this was an agricultural fire affecting two large silage pits additional resources were deployed to support firefighting efforts. On arrival our crew was met with a large fire spread across two pits and spreading to a row of trees. Due to the lack of water supplies nearby to the incident further more resources were requested to assist with the incident. Crews worked hard over two sectors, using multiple jets and firefighting equipment to bring the incident under control and stopped the fire spread to a third silage pit. After a few hours of dampening down extinguishing flare ups. Appliances were down scaled and the stop message sent just after 6am. Our crew returned back to home station just after 6:30am, to clean and service equipment ready for the next shout. No further information to add.

A drought has been declared across Devon and Somerset, and surrounding areas ๐Ÿšจ

Hot, dry conditions mean a higher risk of wildfires and increased pressure on water supplies.

Weโ€™re reducing non-essential water use, reviewing firefighting water supplies, and ensuring our wildfire resources โ€“ including water bowsers, 4x4s, ATVs and drones โ€“ are ready to respond.

Help to protect each other, and our countryside and water supplies, by:

๐Ÿ”ฅ Avoiding campfires and disposable BBQs
๐Ÿ– Staying with BBQs and fire pits
๐Ÿšฌ Never dropping lit ci******es on dry ground
๐Ÿ’ง Using water wisely

Early start for the crew here at Holsworthy. We were mobilised to a generator on fire. On arrival crew were met with a diesel generator well alight situated close to a building and a nearby 2000 litre diesel fuel bowser that was fortunately not involved either.
Quick actions from the crew stopped any fire spread. The generator was destroyed by fire. It was extinguished using Hose-reel jet, safety jet, gas monitor, Thermal imaging equipment and ladders for access. Crews returned home station just before 9am. No further details to add.
