More clearly defined policy daylight between the Conservatives and Labour ahead of the next general election—as if there weren’t enough already on getting our economy back on track, defence, welfare, education, business regulation, inheritance tax, stamp duty, net zero and immigration.

“We are not going back into the EU.”

We set John Healey five simple Budget tests.

He has failed them all.

The Chancellor hasn't even funded 3% defence spending by 2030. The very issue he resigned over!

In fact in the small print defence spending is being cut by £1 Billion.

Healey has kicked the can down the road, and failed to take the tough decisions Britain needs.

So there we have it. More borrowing, higher taxes, higher rents for tenants, even lower growth forecasted by the OBR if that's even possible, but at least the Chancellor put some of his very expensive time grappling with the thorny issue of how to reduce the cost of our sandwich condiments by a couple of pence.

(Don't forget to stockpile those now very affordable gherkins as well)
