From Monday 12th October, surfacing works will be taking place on the main track into Chesworth Farm from the Queensway entrance to help prevent flooding and improve access for visitors. During the works, the entrance track between Jenny Bare Legs and the Depot will be fully closed on Friday 16th, but should remain passable for the rest of the week. Please keep children and dogs under close control in this area.

Horsham Green Gym at Parlour Mead Pond

A big thank you to the Horsham Green Gym volunteers who recently carried out pond maintenance work around Parlour Mead Pond at Chesworth Farm, helping to keep this valuable wetland habitat in good condition for wildlife. The team also gave the recently planted trees their winter tidy, removing competing vegetation and ensuring they have the best chance to establish and thrive. As you can see from the picture everyone worked hard throughout the morning!

Recent moth surveys at Chesworth Farm have produced some excellent results, recording an impressive diversity of species, including five migrant moths carried to the UK by recent favourable weather conditions. The highlight of the survey was the discovery of the incredibly rare Golden Twin-spot, a remarkable find and a first for the site. This exciting result demonstrates the importance of Chesworth Farm's varied habitats, which provide vital resources for both resident and visiting insects. Moth surveys help monitor the farm's ecological condition and give us an indication of how important the site is for wildlife conservation within the wider landscape.

Countryside Warden Jo recently led an enjoyable Bat and Moth Evening on behalf of the Friends of Chesworth Farm, giving participants the opportunity to discover the Farm’s fascinating nocturnal wildlife. Using bat detectors, the group recorded both Soprano Pipistrelle and Common Pipistrelle bats actively foraging across the site during the evening. An exciting highlight of the walk was detecting a Brown Long-eared Bat, a species often difficult to observe due to its quiet calls and secretive behaviour. The event provided a great insight into the diversity of bats and moths found at Chesworth Farm and highlighted the importance of conserving habitats that support these remarkable animals.

West Sussex is a wonderful place to live, work and visit. Our landscapes, coastline, towns, villages and communities are among our county's greatest strengths. However, like communities across the country and around the world, we are already experiencing the effects of

Excellent news from the Farm recently. 🪶 💚

The pair of Kestrels have successfully managed to raise six chicks in the box at Riverside Field. The chicks have been ringed as part of the British Trust of Ornithology nest recording scheme and they were all very healthy.

💚 Thank You to Our Incredible Volunteers 💚

This Volunteer Week, we want to send a huge thanks and appreciation to everyone who helps care for our parks and green spaces.

From our regular volunteers and occasional helpers to our corporate groups and behind-the-scenes heroes — we’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, we simply couldn’t do it without you.

We’ve shared just a small snapshot of some of the fantastic work taking place, but to every volunteer: please know that Horsham District is a greener, more vibrant place because of your hard work, dedication and commitment.

Thank you for everything you do 💚
