In Memory of Peter May (1951–2026)
Hunstanton Library joins readers, libraries, and communities across the UK and the world in mourning the loss of the extraordinary Scottish author, Peter May.
For decades, Peter May’s evocative storytelling transported our patrons from the comfort of their library chairs to the windswept shores of the Outer Hebrides, the rugged landscapes of France, and the gripping depths of his unforgettable mysteries. Through masterworks like The Lewis Trilogy—as well as Entry Island and Lockdown, he didn't just tell stories; he brought landscapes, weather, and complex human emotions to vivid, breathing life.
His books have long been staples on our shelves, eagerly recommended between readers and cherished by everyone who loved a brilliant, immersive page-turner. He was a titan of crime fiction and a master of atmosphere whose warmth and generosity of spirit shone through every page he wrote.
We invite all our patrons to take a moment to remember Peter May, whether by revisiting a favourite novel from our collection or discovering one of his brilliant thrillers for the very first time. His legacy lives on through every reader who opens his books.
