Look at these photos of the fantastic refurbishment to the Multi Use Games Area at Bilton Hall Community Trust. Mainly funded by money raised by the CA and supported by a contribution of CAF funding by all ward councillors.

Works were recently completed to resurface the existing MUGA, replace the basket ball backboards, upgrade the floodlights to LED lighting and applying new sports markings and surface colours.

The MUGA was showing signs of wear & deterioration and was becoming increasingly harsh and unsafe for children to play. The aim of the scheme was to improve safety, appearance and usability to encourage greater use by the local community.

All work was carried out by Play Fitness - specialists in outdoor play and fitness equipment.

On a caf funding walk around last night we looked at several potential schemes across the ward, checked out our latest completed schemes and spoke to residents to hear their concerns and issues around the streets first hand.

While out we dropped in on the Halloween event at Porlock Community Gardens, where we were impressed at the remarkable progress that has been made on the site.
It’s always a welcoming environment and so open to the entire community. The effort from management and volunteers is a credit to the neighbourhood and certainly a worthy asset. Well done to all involved in organising such great events for all the family.

During storm Boelo, your reform councillors have been out trying to keep people and our streets safe.

Security fencing has been secured at multiple locations.

Street works barriers were made safe and moved from roads and pathways. Cones and roadwork signs were reinstated.

We were able to cut back fallen trees to clear access for pedestrians.

Areas identified where leaves had piled up and paths/ alleyways temporarily cleared.

Northern power grid were spotted attending to repairs because of storm damage.

We noticed a water leak coming from below ground which was immediately reported to Northumbrian water.

Broken glass was picked up and disposed of.

General issues to report were paving stones, dog fouling & littering.

Continue to be cautious when out and about.
Please feel free to message us with any issues you have or see within the ward.

Thank you for everyone’s continued support.

ℹ️ Coming soon! 🚨

📢 We are pleased to announce that works for a proposed crossing on Edinburgh road will soon be commencing.

➡️ All Bede councillors backed this proposal to improve safety through better crossing facilities and reduce the risks within this high traffic area for children from the nearby schools on scotch estate.

🦓 The zebra crossing will offer a safe passage for pedestrians around the clock and serve as a reliable alternative in the absence of a crossing patrol.

🏫 Road safety officers will be available to visit schools and provide training to all students on how to safely utilise the crossing.

🚧🚦Multi way signals will be in place on Edinburgh road, at the junctions with Glasgow road and Stirling Avenue from Monday 16 November to Friday 4th December

It was great to meet and speak with everyone who attended our ward surgery at Bilton Hall this morning and we would like to thank those who took the time to engage with us.

As well as voicing their own issues, we all engaged in conversation relating to other matters affecting our ward and received more points to add to our investigations into local areas of concern.

We were able to feedback responses from enquiries already submitted and recognised areas to seek further clarification.

Couple of general topics raised included trees obstructing street lighting now that the darker mornings and nights are upon us, aswell as dog fouling which has been reported and 28 cases having been cleared. We have submitted locations identified for further waste bins for people to dispose of waste responsibly.

A topic which has previously generated plenty of discussion and points arose again today with regards to A194, John Reid road to Lindisfarne roundabout. This was an area we visited on our ward walk with the CEO and officers of South Tyneside council. Points raised were more predominately about the roads themselves and signage, however points discussed this morning included pedestrian crossings which we will now be included in our reports.

Plenty to take away from today and I’ve got to say, we appreciate the support and engagement from our residents which allows us to work to achieve positive outcomes for you all across the estates in our ward.

Many thanks, Cllr’s Oughton, Rice & Wears
