Scale Lane Footbridge will temporarily close next month while complex maintenance works are undertaken to improve its reliability.

Following extensive investigations earlier this year, Hull-based consultancy, Mason Clark Associates, on behalf of the council, has developed a specialist maintenance programme to enhance the bridge’s reliability and support its long-term operation.

The works will include the replacement of key connection bolts within the bridge’s swing mechanism.

Trans Pennine Trail walkers and people cycling the route are advised to use the signed diversion via the Millennium Footbridge. In addition, pedestrians and cyclists will also be able to use Drypool Bridge to cross the river.

Kingswood is a popular part of Hull and is anticipated to continue growing in the years ahead.

Currently, 32,361 vehicles pass through the Ennerdale roundabout every day, with 30,814 at the Wawne Road/Bude Road roundabout.

By 2040, these numbers are predicted to increase by nearly 10% - to 35,393 - at Ennerdale and nearly 14% - to 35,013 - at Wawne Road/Bude Road.

To help ensure more reliable journeys, safer junctions and a network that is better able to accommodate this future traffic demand, Hull City Council and its local contractor, C.R.Reynolds Ltd, are taking proactive steps now to expand the capacity of two of the area’s most used roundabouts.

Here are some of the headline stats for the scheme.

Working in partnership with Humberside Fire & Rescue Service and SWARCO, a new intelligent traffic camera has been installed by Hull City Council at the junction of Rosmead Street and Southcoates Lane to support emergency responses from East Hull Fire Station 🚒

Working alongside the existing warning signals, the camera will help firefighters join Southcoates Lane more safely and efficiently.
