Earlier this week I had the privilege of attending a Black History Month celebration event, hosted at Hull’s Wilberforce Institute. The event saw speakers from Hull and across the country, who all shared different experiences of life. All of them gave fascinating reasons why we should celebrate black history.

📜 Did you know Hull’s birth certificate is currently on display at Hull Maritime Museum?

Until 1 November, visitors have a rare opportunity to see the historic Royal Charter of 1299, granted by King Edward I, which formally established Hull as a town and gave it important trading rights.

More than 700 years old, this remarkable document tells the story of Hull’s beginnings and the royal support that helped shape the city we know today.
