When was the last time you looked above the ceiling?
A building can appear perfectly protected at floor level, while hidden voids above ceilings, within roof spaces or around service risers may contain weaknesses in fire compartmentation.

Fire and smoke can travel through concealed spaces if compartmentation is incomplete or has been compromised.

Firewall provides specialist surveys and installation of fire curtains and flexible fire barriers to help maintain compartmentation through difficult-to-access areas such as roof spaces, ceiling voids, lofts and service risers.

Fire safety doesn’t stop where the ceiling begins.

If you’re responsible for a commercial, industrial or public-sector building, speak to our team about your passive fire protection requirements.

We recently had the opportunity to work with on a project that required external sealing.

Ian from Filo Form attended site to provide hands-on training to our fire-stopping operatives on the correct installation and external sealing of cables using the Filo Form system.

It was a great opportunity for the team to develop their knowledge and gain valuable practical experience with the system.

A big thank you to Ian and the whole Filo Form team for their time.

Compliance Reminder
Even minor refurbishment works can compromise passive fire protection if penetrations aren’t correctly sealed afterwards.

Always ensure contractors understand:
✔ Fire compartmentation
✔ Approved sealing methods
✔ Fire stopping requirements

Small oversights can create major compliance risks.

❓ FIRE DOOR FAQ
“How often should fire doors be inspected?”
The frequency depends on building type and usage, but regular inspections are strongly recommended — especially in high-traffic buildings.

• High-rise Buildings over 11 metres: inspections conducted at least every three months.
• Non-domestic buildings: Inspections recommended every three months.
• Commercial premises: No fixed statutory intervals, but best practice recommends quarterly checks.

Heavily used doors may require more frequent checks to ensure they remain compliant and functional.
