We're hiring: Project Director for Launceston Museum Collections
Interested in heritage, museums and community engagement? We're looking for an experienced project leader to guide an exciting heritage-led regeneration project in Cornwall.
The Launceston Museum Collection – nearly 19,000 objects telling the story of Cornwall's first Norman town – is returning home to Lawrence House after six years in temporary storage. As Project Director, you'll lead the project planning phase, working with volunteers, specialist consultants and community partners to shape the museum's future.
This is a role that combines strategic thinking with hands-on management. You'll manage collections care, oversee a pop-up museum, support volunteers, and coordinate specialist consultants – all whilst ensuring the project meets National Lottery Heritage Fund requirements, and maintains accreditation standards.
What we're looking for:
• Project management experience in heritage or cultural sector
• Understanding of museum standards and collections’ care
• Experience working with volunteer teams
• Passion for heritage and community engagement

The role: Project Director (0.8 FTE) | £30k - £35k (pro-rata)

TONIGHT AT 7.00PM
National Theatre Live presents – The Misanthrope
Award-winner Sandra Oh (Killing Eve) plays the title role in this razor-sharp reimagining of Molière’s classic dark comedy.
Telling the truth isn’t always that simple. Alice, a brilliant novelist, despises the carefully constructed lies of modern society. But the more she challenges those around her, the fiercer the backlash becomes. Soon, she must confront the price of speaking her truth in a world that would rather silence her.
Filmed live on stage at the National Theatre, Indhu Rubasingham directs Martin Crimp’s (Cyrano de Bergerac) highly anticipated play.
Event Date: Wednesday 23rd September, 2026
Event Time: 7:00 pm
Event Location: Launceston Town Hall – PL15 7AR
Event Organiser: Launceston Town Council
Tickets are £10 and are available at www.ticketsource.com, Launceston Visitor Information Centre, or on the door

Residents are being asked to share their views on life in Cornwall and what they want Cornwall Council to focus on in the year ahead.

The Let’s Talk About Cornwall survey asks people about their local area, how the cost of living is affecting them and their families, and which council services and activities matter most to them.

Council Leader Leigh Frost said: “We know that rising costs have affected households across Cornwall in different ways, and we want to hear directly from residents about their experiences.

“Your feedback will help us understand the pressures people and communities are facing and where they want us to focus our efforts.

Deputy Council Leader Adam Paynter said: “The Council is also facing significant financial pressures and difficult choices about how services are delivered. The results of this survey will help inform our budget proposals for next year and make sure we are focusing our resources on the things residents value most.

“We also want to understand what matters most to individual communities and where the Council can work more closely with local people and organisations to tackle local priorities.”

The Let’s Talk About Cornwall survey is available on the Let's Talk Cornwall website until Sunday 1 November 2026. It takes around 10 minutes to complete.

Further to the successful purchase of the former Barclays Bank building at 6 Broad Street, a tender process was undertaken to appoint architects to draw up plans for the site in relation to its conversion to a library hub building. The tenders requested that the project be taken to full planning permission stage, including Listed Building consent. Following the success of this stage of the project, a second tender process was undertaken for the commissioning of a professional team led by an architect and comprising sub-consultant Structural Engineers, Building Services Engineers, a Quantity Surveyor, Principal Designer and specialist consultancy for Fire Engineering and Building Control. This team are commissioned to review the previous design development of Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) work stages 1-3 that resulted in both Planning and Listed Building consents followed by the completion of RIBA work stages: -
• RIBA 4 Design Development for building regulations, tender documentation and main contractor procurement
• RIBA 5 Construction
• RIBA 6 Defects Period

In addition to the above, a separate tender process was undertaken for the commissioning of a Project Manager to lead the professional team providing design and quantity surveying services.

Following receipt of completed tenders for both parts of the project, each tender was scored and shortlisted and the top three companies under each role (architects and project management) were interviewed. The interview process was to enable the Council to have an understanding of the companies, and to ensure that their approach and ethos was an appropriate fit for the project and for the Council as a whole. The Interview panel was made up of Cllr Gilbert (Mayor), Cllr Lankston (project lead), Trevor Humphreys (professional advisor) and the Town Clerk. All invited companies gave a presentation of between 45 minutes to an hour and were asked to give details of;
• Team background – highlighting experience
• Relevant experience of team and key members – highlighting what qualities made them the ideal candidate
• Methodology/Programmes – Highlighting the review of RIBA and cost control
• Risk – highlighting key issues and proposed mitigation
• Resources – highlighting site engagement during RIBA 5
• Why this project- what aspects of the project interested the company

The successful contractors are Hayhurst and Co Architects and Ravenslade Project Management and both companies have now submitted draft contracts for the works and meetings have been arranged to discuss the next phase of the project and to agree timelines. Once these have been agreed we will be able to provide further updates, as well as undertaking further consultations as the works progress.
