πŸ†πŸ”₯ BRITISH FIREFIGHTER CHALLENGE 2026 πŸ”₯πŸ†

A huge CONGRATULATIONS to every athlete who competed at the British Firefighter Challenge 2026, helping make the event’s 10th anniversary one to remember! πŸ‘πŸ’ͺ

Held at the Fire Service College in Moreton-in-Marsh, the challenge brought together firefighters from across the UK and around the world πŸŒπŸš’, all putting themselves to the test in a demanding display of strength, fitness, skill and determination.

The effort, commitment, teamwork and support shown throughout the weekend was truly amazing. πŸ’ͺ🀝 The atmosphere and camaraderie between competitors demonstrated what makes the firefighting community so special.

A special WELL DONE goes to our local Leek firefighters:

πŸ₯‡ Isaac Dartford
πŸ’ͺ Jonny Whittingham
πŸ”₯ Ethan Hall

All three gave it absolutely everything and, even more impressively, beating some of their previous times! πŸ‘β±οΈ

We’re incredibly proud of the effort and dedication you’ve all put in β€” both in the challenge and in the training that got you there.

Fantastic work, lads! πŸš’πŸ’ͺπŸ”₯

πŸš’ ROAD TRAFFIC COLLISION (RTC) TRAINING πŸš—πŸ’₯

At Leek Fire Station, our crews have the opportunity to train using real vehicles, helping us prepare for the challenging and technical situations we may face at road traffic collisions. πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’πŸ‘©β€πŸš’

These drills allow our firefighters to develop vital skills, including but not limited to:

πŸ”§ Vehicle stabilisation – creating a safe and secure working environment.
πŸͺŸ Glass management – safely removing and controlling vehicle glass.
πŸ› οΈ Holmatro cutting and spreading tools – developing precision and confidence when using our specialist rescue equipment.
🀝 Teamwork and communication – working simultaneously as a coordinated team to safely and efficiently extricate casualties.

During this drill, our scenario involved a casualty trapped in the driver's seat with a suspected spinal injury. Due to the circumstances, the decision was made to remove the casualty through the rear of the vehicle.
To achieve this safely, the roof was removed before the casualty was carefully lifted and transferred using a long board, allowing the crew to practice the coordination and techniques required when dealing with a potentially serious spinal injury. πŸš‘

Training like this is invaluable. It allows our crews to practice, communicate and build confidence in a controlled environment, so that when faced with the real thing, we are prepared to work together and give casualties the safest possible outcome. πŸ’ͺπŸš’

Train hard. Work as a team. Stay safe.

πŸš’ LEEK STATION SAYS THANK YOU! ❀️

As we come to the end of a long, hot and dry season, and after one of the busiest summers in years, everyone at Leek Fire Station would like to take a moment to say a huge THANK YOU to our incredible community. πŸ™Œ

Throughout the summer, you’ve helped us in so many ways β€” from keeping a watchful eye out for fires πŸ”₯, to being fire-conscious when enjoying our beautiful moorlands , and sharing kind words of support and appreciation.

We’ve also been incredibly touched by the small treats, refreshments and thoughtful gestures brought to our firefighters during incidents or delivered to the station. β˜•πŸͺ❀️ These acts of kindness really do mean a lot and help remind our crews just how much our community cares.

Most importantly, we’ve seen our community come together to look out for one another, protect our beautiful surroundings and support each other. 🀝

We couldn’t be prouder to serve such a fantastic community. πŸš’πŸ‘
Thank you to every single person who has played their part this summer.

From all of us at Leek Fire Station β€” THANK YOU! ❀️πŸ”₯

πŸš’ Training Exercise at Westwood High School

A big thank you to Westwood High School for kindly allowing us to use their site to carry out a valuable training exercise.

The drill, organised by Crew Manager Chawner, gave our firefighters the opportunity to train in an unfamiliar environment – something that’s incredibly important, as no two real-life incidents are ever the same. Exercises like this help develop confidence, teamwork and decision-making in realistic scenarios, ensuring our crews are always prepared to respond when needed.

It was fantastic to see Orange Watch putting their skills into practice and demonstrating the professionalism and commitment they are very capable of doing

Thank you once again to everyone at Westwood High School for your support and for helping us maintain the high standards of training that keep our communities safe. πŸ‘πŸš’

**Incident Report: Crews responding to a wildfire in the Peak District**

Leek Community Fire Station was mobilised to assist with a significant wildfire near Tintwistle in the Peak District.

Working alongside neighbouring fire and rescue services, our crews tackled challenging conditions using a combination of hose reels, portable water backpacks and fire beaters to contain and extinguish the rapidly spreading fire across difficult terrain.

We are incredibly proud of our firefighters, who showed outstanding resilience, teamwork and professionalism throughout the incident, spending hours supporting our neighbouring counties and helping to protect the local landscape, wildlife and nearby communities.

A huge well done to everyone involved – another fantastic example of firefighters working together across county borders when communities need them most. πŸ‘πŸš’

If you’re enjoying the countryside during the warm weather, please remember to take extra care. Avoid lighting BBQs or campfires, dispose of ci******es responsibly, and take all litter home with you, as even a small spark can quickly develop into a devastating wildfire.

**Incident Report: Response to an Uncontrolled Burn in The Roaches**

Leek was mobilised to an uncontrolled fire in The Roaches. This incident serves as an important reminder that, without the proper equipment and means to extinguish them safely, fires can quickly spread and become dangerous.

As the warmer weather continues, please help us protect our beautiful countryside and communities by following this simple advice:

β€’ AVOID BBQs or open fires, especially in wooded or rural areas.
β€’ Dispose of ci******es responsibly and ensure they are fully extinguished.
β€’ Keep matches and lighters out of the reach of children and young people.
β€’ Take your rubbish home or dispose of it in a suitable bin. Glass bottles and other litter can increase the risk of fire, particularly in hot weather.
β€’ If you suspect a fire, call 999 immediately. If possible, use What3Words to provide an exact location to the emergency call handler.

By taking these precautions, we can all play a part in keeping our beautiful local areas safe.

Leek Community Fire Station is here to support and protect our community.

πŸ₯ŠπŸš’ Battle of the Badges at Festival Park πŸ₯ŠπŸš’

One of the biggest nights of the year for SFRS, raising money for the Boparan Charitable Trust, which supports children affected by life-limiting conditions, disabilities and extreme poverty across the UK.

What an incredible evening organised by BGBA, with more than Β£10,000 raised for a truly worthwhile cause. A huge thank you to everyone who attended, took part and brought their families along to create such an electric atmosphere. Your support will/has make a real difference to the lives of many children and their families.

A special mention goes to FFs Jonny Whittingham and Ethan Hall, who proudly represented Leek Orange Watch on the night. Stepping into the ring takes months of hard work, discipline and no small amount of courage, and both firefighters showed exactly that as well as all the fighters who stepped into the ring. They fought with heart, determination and sportsmanship from the opening bell to the last, doing themselves, their station and the Leek community proud.

πŸ‘ Well done to both – a fantastic effort in support of an amazing cause.❀️
