As we enjoy a well-earned break, we're reflecting on a busy and successful half term for our Fire Cadets.

It's been fantastic to see our cadets getting stuck into a wide range of activities, building on the skills and knowledge they've learned previously, and continuing to develop their confidence, teamwork and resilience.

During the term, we also said goodbye and good luck to WM Dumford from Uppingham, a longstanding supporter of the Fire Cadet programme who has always championed opportunities for young people, including hosting FireSkills at Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service Uppingham Fire Station

We also celebrated Katherine being presented with her 20 Year Service Badge, recognising two decades of dedicated service and support to both Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and the Fire Cadet programme. The presentation was made even sweeter with some very welcome chocolates!

A huge well done to all our cadets for their enthusiasm, commitment and willingness to get involved throughout the term. Enjoy the break, and we look forward to seeing everyone again next week! ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿซ

๐Ÿ‘ Congratulations to Fire Cadet Morghana ๐Ÿ‘

We are delighted to announce that Fire Cadet Morghana has been appointed as one of the Lord-Lieutenant's Cadets for Leicestershire, representing Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service for the coming year.

Morghana was formally presented during a ceremony hosted by The Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire, Mr Mike Kapur OBE, and will support the Lord-Lieutenant at a variety of civic, ceremonial and Royal events across the county. This prestigious role recognises outstanding commitment, leadership, and dedication within the Cadet movement.

Morghana takes over the role from Crew Manager Jacob, who has represented the Service with distinction over the past year. We would like to thank Jacob for his dedication, professionalism, and excellent service as a Lord-Lieutenant's Cadet.

This appointment is a fantastic achievement and reflects the hard work, enthusiasm, and commitment shown by Morghana throughout her time with the Fire Cadets. We are incredibly proud and wish her every success in this exciting opportunity.

Congratulations, Morghana! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿš’

For World Mental Health Day on 10 October, our Cadets watched a BBC video https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/articles/zxqtqyc and created their own mental health support ladder.

โ€‹Every step countsโ€”on and off the ladder. ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ’ช

Climb safe, support your crew, and take mental health one step at a time:

โ€‹Rungs (Self-Awareness): Catch stress early.

โ€‹Grounding (Basics): Rest, fuel, move.

โ€‹Reach Out (Peer Support): Never climb alone.

โ€‹Safety Gear (Pro Help): Lean on support services.

โ€‹Spot Your Crew (Look Out): Watch out for each other.

๐Ÿš’ Cadets across all three stations have been sharpening their skills with ladder drills, hose work, and teamwork exercises.

Check out these fantastic photos of them in action, supported by our dedicated volunteers and experienced Fire Cadet Instructors. Together, they're building confidence, developing new skills, and learning how to work safely as a team.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Meet More of Our Fire Cadet Team! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

This time, weโ€™re introducing you to two more members of the team who help make Fire Cadets such a great place for young people to learn, develop and have fun. ๐Ÿš’

From exciting drills and teamwork challenges to some rather soggy memories, hereโ€™s a little more about Isaac and Aqeel! ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿš’ Isaac โ€“ Volunteer

Favourite food:
Japanese cuisine, especially sushi! ๐Ÿฃ

Favourite drill:
BA and the smokehouse, as well as the water wall on a hot day! ๐Ÿ’ฆ

Reason for doing cadets:
I was looking for somewhere I could learn new skills and meet new people. I soon realised what a great community there is here, full of support and kindness, along with lots of unique and engaging lessons about a variety of topics surrounding the Fire Service. Iโ€™ve enjoyed it so much that I havenโ€™t stopped going since!

Funniest cadet memory:
We were split into two teams and tasked with constructing a shelter to protect us from an โ€˜extreme hurricaneโ€™ โ€” which meant having a branch fired directly at us! ๐ŸŒช๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฆ

We spent almost all our time discussing what to do, so we didnโ€™t have enough time to finish the shelter. In the end, half a dozen cadets were huddled together under a salvage sheet, getting utterly soaked and all laughing hysterically! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Interesting fact about you:
Iโ€™m very passionate about cars and driving. I built a racing simulator at home, where I practise and race online competitively, and I hope to start racing in person soon too! ๐ŸŽ๏ธ๐Ÿ

๐Ÿš’ Aqeel โ€“ Instructor

Favourite food:
Steak or sushi ๐Ÿฅฉ๐Ÿฃ

Favourite drill:
Storm Aqeel โ€“ itโ€™s always very exciting! ๐ŸŒช๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚

Reason for doing cadets:
I enjoy helping to develop the skills and confidence of the young future firefighters.

Funniest cadet memory:
We once did a very exciting water rescue drill where a โ€˜stormโ€™ kept washing away equipment! The look on their faces when they realised what was happeing was priceless! The cadets did an excellent job of adapting to the situation and learnt about the importance of keeping resources secure. ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ˜‚

Interesting fact about you:
I play American football and, a few years ago, I competed for Great Britain! ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

๐Ÿš’ Cadets are back on station! ๐Ÿš’

We've got a busy programme ahead with plenty of drills, events, challenges and opportunities to learn new skills.

To mark the start of a new term, here's a photo of our High Reach Appliance reaching for the sky. A perfect reminder for our cadets to aim high, work hard, and be the very best they can be.

โœจ The sky's the limit! โœจ

11/09/2026

Today, we remember the victims of the 9/11 attacks, and in particular the 343 New York firefighters who lost their lives while responding to the attacks on the World Trade Center.

Our current Fire Cadets were not yet born when these events took place, but the impact of that day has shaped the world they have grown up in.

We remember the firefighters, police officers, emergency responders and all those who lost their lives, as well as the families, colleagues and communities who continue to live with their loss.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Meet More of Our Team! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Weโ€™re back with two more people from our fantastic Fire Cadets team! This time, meet Andrea, one of our Cadet Leaders, and Josh O, one of our Cadet Volunteers.

Find out what they enjoy, why they got involved, and discover a couple of fun facts along the way! ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿš’ Josh O โ€“ Cadet Volunteer

Favourite food:
Cheeseburger, chicken wrap, or pizza with pineapple!!!! ๐Ÿ”๐ŸŒฏ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ•

Favourite drill:
Hose running โ€“ it shows the teamwork and skills of the Fire Cadets. ๐Ÿ’ฆ

Reason for doing cadets:
To gain experience and knowledge about being a firefighter, with the aim of applying to become a firefighter in the future. ๐Ÿš’

Funniest cadet memory:
Doing the BA shuffle in the dark when one of the cadets somehow ended up in a cupboard! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Interesting fact about you:
I'm a starting Cornerback for an American Football team โ€“ wow Josh! ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

๐Ÿš’ Andrea โ€“ Cadet Leader & LFRS Employee

Favourite food:
Italian food โ€“ I love garlic bread and tiramisuโ€ฆ though not together! ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ˜‹

Favourite drill:
BA (Breathing Apparatus) โ€“ watching cadets trample over random things in the smokehouse is always entertaining! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Reason for doing cadets:
I was retired and saw the role advertised, so I thought Iโ€™d give it a go!

Funniest cadet memory:
When one of our Cadet Crew Managers was asked where the safest place on the drill yard was, he replied: โ€œBehind you, Andrea!โ€ ๐Ÿ˜‚

Interesting fact about you:
Iโ€™m a twin! ๐Ÿ‘ฏโ€โ™€๏ธ We can't believe there are two people as unique as you Andrea!!
