Autumn Update- from Leanne ✨️

22/10/2026

Details matter... to me. 🤍

Our play spaces are curated with the highest level of detail and, honestly, I don't think that will surprise anyone! ✨

In fact, it often takes longer to tidy, sort and reset our environments than the time we actually spend playing in them.

One of those spaces is our **indoor big sand area**. A wonderful invitation to play that requires a huge amount of care behind the scenes. Every session ends with sieving, sorting and carefully resetting resources, ready to inspire the next adventure. Every basket, scoop and treasure has its place.

Why do we invest so much time in sand play?

🤎 Develops fine motor skills and hand strength
🤎 Encourages creativity, imagination and open-ended exploration
🤎 Supports early maths and language development through measuring, describing and problem-solving

Because the magic is in the details... ✨

A little temporary post 💛

Many of you know that I self-funded The Mill and continue to volunteer my time to run our play sessions.

Every booking helps fund the running, upkeep and new offerings at The Mill, but I don't take a wage from it. Alongside The Mill, I have four other jobs and three children, so protecting family time is really important to me.

As we head into my favourite season, I'm putting some boundaries back in place around social media and emails. I dedicate Mondays and one weekend day to The Mill, schedule posts in advance, and keep notifications switched off.

If I'm slow to reply, please know it's never intended to be rude. It's simply the only way I can continue running The Mill as a volunteer while also being present for my family.

A few quick reminders:

• Saturday is fully booked
• Directions are sent in your reminder email
• We can't offer swaps or booking changes
• Sibling places require a message, but we have no availability next week so time for response
• One adult per booking, as stated in the session description
• Parties are fully booked until March 2027

Since Monday, 17 inbox messages have landed. I genuinely appreciate every one of you, but I simply don't have the hours to respond daily.

Thank you for your patience and understanding, and for continuing to support The Mill 🤍

'Getting annoyed' that my business does what it should and has to pay out £47 on a random Tuesday.
Looking on the bright side I save £5 by paying by direct debit as annual ICO registration is £52 annually. (Used to be £35) last year.

I have a booking system that holds names and email addresses. So legally you have to be registered with the Information Commissoners Office.
I also pay for the booking system. The ICO reg is my cover as a Data Controller as I have access to this information.

It doesn't come included with any kind of booking system subscription.
Anyone with any kind of booking system that collects information - needs it.

There is so much to know, and do (and pay for) as a tiny business I could do without giving away £47 this week.

There are 5 spaces to play next Monday- in business terms I can then cover this additional bill whilst giving my Monday morning time to bring a lovely play session.

Business owners. Do you get annoyed with this annual bill? 😪
