🎄🚐 FREE BUSES ARE BACK FOR THE CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL

Thanks to the Lib Dem Town Council, free bus travel is back for this year’s Christmas Festival in the town.

Residents can use the L buses for free on:

🎄28 November

🎄5 December

🎄12 December

🎄19 December

Each of these four Saturdays brings a special festive programme in the town centre - from free music, events and activities to seasonal traders on the market. Perfect for gift shopping and a great chance to support the town centre businesses.

By expanding the festivities across multiple weekends it also gives more opportunity for everyone to get involved - whatever the weather brings.

Arrangements for free parking in the Christmas season are still being worked out - watch this space!

🎄🎆 And don’t forget the Christmas light switch on and firework display takes place on Friday 27th November.

Bus rides will be free on every Christmas Festival Saturday in Leighton Buzzard.

📣 BE GREEN, GO ELECTRIC EVENT ON THE HIGH STREET TODAY!

Another busy day on our High Street today (Friday 2nd October) with the 'Be Green, Go Electric' event.

There are just a couple hours left to go see some of the latest electric cars and find out about heat pumps, home battery systems and more.

You can also meet a few of the Town Council grounds team and see some of the new electric vehicles and machinery the Council has invested in to cut pollution and our carbon foot print, save money and help keep our towns parks and cemetery looking in great shape.

📣 MUCH NEEDED LINE-PAINTING WORKS FOR THE TOWN

We are pleased to see that over the last few weeks much needed work to repaint road markings has been underway in the town.

We have been pushing for this work to be done for some months - after pedestrian crossings on main school routes almost disappeared in some places, and road markings like double yellow lines had almost worn away across the town centre.

Repainting has taken place on West Street and on the crossings at Bridge Street, outside Mary Bassett Lower school and at the roundabout on Hockliffe Street.

Further work has also taken place on Lake Street where the crossing outside Morrisons petrol station almost completely disappeared.

We are particularly pleased that this work has been completed before the autumn and the wet weather this often brings.

We continue to work to get other areas repainted and have just arranged for faded lines on Brooklands Avenue to be repainted.

Please let us know if there are other areas in the town that need repainting and we will pick these up with the Council.

💊 Have you struggled to get the medicine you need?

We’re hearing concerns from local people about shortages of prescription medicines and the difficulties they can cause.

Cllr Chris Leaman has launched a new survey to find out how medicine shortages are affecting people in Leighton Buzzard and across Central Bedfordshire.

If you’ve had to visit several pharmacies, wait for medication to become available, or go back to your GP for an alternative prescription, we want to hear from you.

Your experiences will help us build a clearer picture of what’s happening locally and press for action.

Please share this post so we can hear from as many local residents as possible.

Thanks to Lib Dem MP Tom Gordon, from April disabled people in England will be entitled to free bus travel 24 hours a day.

Free local bus travel is a vital lifeline for many disabled people.

After an almost two-year campaign the Government has finally listened to Liberal Democrat calls to stop restrictions to disabled bus passes.

Disabilities don’t start at 9.30am. Neither should disabled bus passes.

📣 SUPPORT DURING THE HEATWAVE THIS WEEK

Central Beds Council has an online information hub where you can find sources of support during the continued hot weather.

🟠 An AMBER heat warning has been issued for our area, lasting until Friday. The highest temperatures are expected today (Thursday).

The Met Office warning highlights likely health impacts, as well as potential water safety incidents and travel disruption. Some heat sensitive systems and equipment may also be disrupted, with the potential for power cuts in places.

The Council’s website page includes:

⚪️ Links to health advice for the hot weather

⚪️ Information about cool spaces - the Leighton Leisure Centre is available.

⚪️ Support for rough sleepers

⚪️ Links to water advice

⚪️ Links to fire safety advice, as well as much more information that may be helpful

Please do check on friends, family and neighbours who may be vulnerable in the hot weather.

Please do also share the below information with those who may not be able to access it online ⬇️

📣 HAVE YOUR SAY TO HELP PROTECT ROMAN GATE PARK & GREEN SPACE ON DUNNOCK DRIVE

Local Lib Dem councillors are supporting residents of the Roman Gate and Sandhills estates after valuable green spaces have been proposed for development.

There are two key sites at risk in this area:

📍The Roman Gate Park - a precious area of green space that has faced threats of development in the past (site 136589)

📍Green space under the pylons either side of Dunnock Drive on Sandhills (site 136585)

These spaces are vital places for residents to get out in the fresh air, for children to play and to support wildlife. They must be protected.

It’s really important that residents have their say by taking part in the Local Plan submitted sites consultation. The consultation closes on 17 August 2026.

📣 MAKE SURE YOU SHARE YOUR VIEWS TO HELP PROTECT THE SOUTHCOTT COUNTRYSIDE

There are just days to go before the consultation on sites submitted for the next Local Plan closes.

We are supporting residents working to protect the beautiful countryside around the Stud Farm in Southcott.

There is lots of information on how to respond on the resident led https://futureoflinslade.org website.

Councillors and residents are urging people to have their say as greenbelt land west of Linslade has been suggested for potential development.

🚧ROAD CLOSURE 🚧

We want to make people aware of a road closure on Heath Road, by The Star pub. The road is closed to allow Anglian Water to carry out 'remedial work'. We have asked the Central Bedfordshire Council for more details about the closure.

Updates about the closure can be found here https://one.network/?GB151354293
