World Stroke Day: Every minute matters ⌛
Thursday 29 October is World Stroke Day. Each year, our acute stroke service at Lincoln County Hospital admits around 1,000 patients experiencing a stroke. Our Front Door Stroke Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) team also handles an extraordinary 500–600 telephone and video consultations every month, supporting urgent referrals, assessments and specialist advice.
World Stroke Day is also an opportunity to remind ourselves how important it is to recognise the signs of stroke and act quickly. Stroke can happen at any age, and getting urgent medical help can save lives and reduce the risk of long-term disability.
This year, The Sleaford Community Stroke Team are teaming up with the local Stroke Association Coordinators and will be at Grantham Community Diagnostic Centre from 11am-3pm with some resources from the Stroke Association and speaking to people about the signs and symptoms of stroke and ensuring they know it is an emergency situation should they spot any symptoms.
Remember FAST 👇
Face: Has the face drooped on one side?
Arms: Is there weakness in one arm?
Speech: Is speech slurred or difficult to understand?
Time: Act immediately.
