CONGRATULATIONS TO ALDERMEN TINSLEY AND PORTER

Congratulations to the two longest-serving councillors on Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council: Alderman James Tinsley, recognised for 27 years’ service, and Alderman Paul Porter, recognised for 25 years’ service at today’s Long Service Awards.

On behalf of the Lagan Valley DUP team, we would like to thank both men for their dedicated service to the people of the Lisburn and Castlereagh area. James has successfully contested seven elections and Paul six successful elections, earning the trust of voters each time to continue their work.

This is a well-deserved honour. We look forward to seeing them continue to serve their communities for many years to come.

Congratulations also to the council staff who received long service certificates today. Thank you for your commitment and dedication over so many years.

Sinn Féin have demanded that the Arts Council NI revoke funding from our marching bands.

If the Arts Council NI do take this decision I will be requesting that the Arts Council also revoke £120,000 of annual taxpayer funding to the West Belfast Feile sectarian hatefest.

The West Belfast Feile glorifies the likes of 5x sectarian murderer Brendan ‘Bik’ McFarlane, beaming his image to 1000s of young people to brain wash another generation in sectarian hatred.

If Sinn Féin, who hate our marching bands want to treat our proud bands community with such contempt I will not sit idly by.

If Sinn Féin cared so much for the correct use of public funds, they should surrender their own taxpayer-funded salaries for breaking the law on the Garvaghy Road.

The Poppy Appeal 2026 has been officially launched.

Every year, the Poppy Appeal kicks off our national and annual period of Remembrance as we head towards Remembrance Day. Across Northern Ireland we have had local launches of the Appeal.

It is an opportunity to once again remember the incredible sacrifice of so many. It is a time to also remember those who still grieve the loss of a loved one through war and conflict. To remember those who still endure pain and injury through their service. To remember those facing hardship by way of loss or service.

Thank you to the many, many volunteers who give so much every year to raise funds for others. Thank you to all who give so generously - whether it is to the Poppy Appeal or to another armed forces or veterans charity. It really matters.

❤️

DUP MLA Trevor Clarke 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐞 vile sectarian stickers displayed on lampposts in Belfast, including one depicting an apparent shooting alongside the words “Shoot your local Orange B*****d”. 🚓 👮‍♀️

Mr Clarke, the DUP’s Policing spokesman, said:

“This is utterly sickening and a blatant attempt to stir up sectarian hatred. There can be absolutely no justification for displaying imagery encouraging the murder of someone because of their perceived religion or association with the Orange Order.

This type of poisonous material is dangerous. Words and images have consequences, and we should never underestimate the potential for such hatred to encourage violence.

I have reported this matter to the PSNI and expect it to be treated with the seriousness it deserves. Those responsible for producing and displaying this material must be held accountable.

There is a responsibility on political and community leaders to condemn this without qualification. Those who speak loudly about rights and respect must be equally vocal when hatred is directed towards the Protestant and Orange community.

There can be no place for this kind of sectarian intimidation on our streets.”
