The Walker Art Gallery houses an internationally-renowned collection of paintings, sculpture and decorative art. It is one of Europe’s finest galleries, with a collection that ranges from outstanding modern and contemporary works to Medieval and Renaissance masterpieces. Some of the greatest British artists of the last century are represented in the contemporary galleries, from Lucian Freud to David Hockney, while the Gallery’s Impressionist collection is not to be missed. You can also see paintings by 17th and 18th century masters including Poussin, Rembrandt and Gainsborough, before taking in the Walker’s famed Pre-Raphaelite collection. Younger visitors will love Big Art for Little Artists, a gallery designed to introduce children to art in a fun and interactive way.

Frederic Leighton's 'Twixt Hope and Fear' (1895) returns to the Walker Art Gallery ✨ It hangs above the Dorchester House fireplace in Room 8 and was last on display at the Walker in 1895, when it was shown in that year’s Liverpool Autumn Exhibition. The painting is displayed alongside the Walker’s Victorian collection, and entry to the gallery is free. Plan your visit now!

One of the Family by Frederick George Cotman, 1880 ❣️Cotman painted this romantic scene of rustic domestic life at the Black Boy Inn at Hurley on Thames. It shows a farmer (posed by the inn keeper) returning home for his meal, while his horse leans through the doorway to be fed by the farmer's wife.
