Regarding green belt land...

Port of Liverpool developers call for 70 hectares of Green Belt land to be released THE developer behind plans to expand the Port of Liverpool has called on Sefton Council to allocate 70 hectares of Green Belt land for a new “Strategic Employment Location”.

Fantastic news for the people of Sefton!! Thanks to the support of our local people and the petition by F.R.A.G.O.F.F, it has been announced that David Wilson Homes application to build 274 homes on Liverpool Road has now been withdrawn. It became evident that the Green Belt land was unsuitable to build housing due to the severe risk of flooding and drainage problems.
It is now up to us to call upon the council to reconsider the inclusion of this site within the Local Plan and fully re-examine the Green Belt study that deemed the Liverpool Road site appropriate for development.

The Plan sets out how 'new development will be managed in the period from 2015 to 2030, encourages sustainable development and economic growth and gives current and future generations more opportunities to live and work in Sefton’s outstanding environment.'

People of Thornton, however are particularly concerned about the plan to build 783 new houses.Thornton already struggles to support/manage its current residents due to poor roads (even with the new link road), no leisure facilities, no youth facilities, lack of recreational space, poor transport links, poor health facilities, let alone any facilities for the elderly/frail.

V. Baylif, a Thornton resident has been emailing local councillors and also Bill Esterson, MP for Sefton Central Labour Party to voice her concerns, some of which included the following:
‘There are so many questions that remain unanswered – Why are they not using the brown belt sites still underdeveloped, why are we not ensuring empty properties are being used. How is this sustainable Development without the appropriate infrastructure in place. What happens to ecology of this area, we have large numbers of migrating birds descend to our area every year? As we have limited recreational facilities many of us walk along the last remaining green areas along Thornton/Lunt, where will we go? For a nice walk along the new link road, or in between the bulldozers. Our children have never had any proper recreational facilities in this area for over 20 years, the only thing they did have was the right to roam the green belt, you are even taking this away from them. Urban sprawl for who, for the local community – No, for the wider local need – No (we have hundreds of houses up for sale now that cant be sold, don’t tell me there is a high demand for these properties). ‘

Sefton have been holding consultations for 12 weeks which ends on Friday, 27 September 2013. The next consultation will be tomorrow at St Luke’s Church on 22nd August between 2pm. and 8pm. You would need to book in advance with a maximum of two people per request. Although this alert is very short notice on this page, it would be worth ringing up or going along to air your views. Please try and get involved and make any of your concerns known. There is a worry that the residents of Thornton are not being informed of any of these plans in order to limit any opposing views. More venues in Thornton need to be selected for consultations rather than in Crosby which would make it easier for the elderly/frail/disabled to air their concerns.

One of my neighbours from Southport Road has asked me to view his response to the draft Core Strategy. He 'hopes the Councillors and officers will take due note of all our views when they produce the actual Core Strategy Document and that the draft is totally unacceptable.
