The Liverpool Athenaeum Founded in 1797, the Athenaeum is Liverpool's most prestigious members club. Applications are welcome. Venue available for hire.

It was established as an elegant location for members to gather together to discuss news and exchange information away from the overcrowded coffee houses of the Georgian high street. The beautiful Athenaeum building in use today dates from the 1920's and is available to hire for weddings and other formal events. The club is open for prospective membership.

Behind the doors of The Athenaeum’s Committee Room, generations of important conversations have taken place.

Since 1928, every member application to join The Club has been approved within these four walls, while the room continues to host board meetings and important gatherings from across the city and beyond.

But it’s not all business.

The Committee Room also provides an intimate and luxurious setting for memorable private dinners, where exceptional cuisine is served against a backdrop steeped in history 🥂

As the days grow shorter and the city settles into autumn, there’s nowhere quite like The Athenaeum Library to slow the pace 🍂

Since 1797, its shelves have been filled with stories, ideas and glimpses into Liverpool’s past.

Today, around 60,000 volumes sit alongside maps, pictures, journals, periodicals and pieces of the city’s history 📚

A library made for lingering, discovering and getting lost between the pages.

Perhaps autumn is the perfect time to explore it.
