Tonight, millions of viewers will watch the Pride of Britain Awards celebrate extraordinary people making a difference in their communities.

One of those community champions is John, a Merseylink customer from the Liverpool City Region who was recently named among the top three finalists from more than 500 nominations for a North West regional Pride of Britain fundraising award.

Over the years, John has raised around £20,000 for charitable causes, volunteered as a disability football coach and inspired others through his determination and commitment to helping people.

John credits Merseylink with helping him stay active in his community and continue volunteering. He wanted to recognise the people behind the journeys that make that possible:

"Thank you to Danny and all the other drivers and LCRCA office staff for providing a safe, reliable, friendly service that has enabled me to get out to play and coach wheelchair football with The Liverpool Foundation."

Accessible transport can be life changing, helping people stay active, connected and able to give back to their communities. It's why services like Merseylink have supported residents across the Liverpool City Region for more than 40 years.

Join us in congratulating John on this incredible achievement.

For the first time in 40 years, buses across Wirral are returning to public control this Sunday 25 October! 🚍✨

Mayor Steve Rotheram’s public transport revolution takes its next step with key upgrades for passengers:

🔹 Low-emission Metro buses with USB charging & improved accessibility
🔹 Increased frequencies, extra evening/weekend buses & direct links to Arrowe Park Hospital and Clatterbridge Cancer Centre
🔹 The £2 single adult fare cap and £2.20 MyTicket remain in place to make travel affordable for more people

What you need to know ahead of Sunday:

📍 All Wirral route numbers will now start with '4' (e.g., service 17 becomes 417)
📍 Concessionary passes work as normal; check the website for details on weekly, monthly & season tickets
