Using all caps can cause significant accessibility issues for people with motor, visual or cognitive disabilities.

But it affects everybody, slowing down reading time and causing brain fatigue.

In all caps, each letter is the same shape and size, offering no visual clue as to what the word or sentence says. You have to decode each letter individually.

So this , we are asking you to stop using all caps in your materials so that it's more accessible for everyone.

Are you 16, 17, 18 or 19, in Scotland and look after someone who gets a disability benefit for around 16 hours per week (that's less than 2.5 hours per day).

You could be entitled to the Young Carer Grant from our friends at Social Security Scotland.

You'll get £405.10 each year to spend on whatever you like.

The Access Panel Network Engagement team at Disability Equality Scotland are hosting an event for International Human Rights Day.

🗓️ Date: Thursday 10 December 2026
🕘 Time: 1pm to 2pm (Room opens at 12.55pm for check-in)
📍 Location: Zoom (online)

This event will showcase the work of Access Panels. Unique to Scotland, these are groups of disabled people who volunteer their time and work together to improve accessibility and wider social inclusion in their local communities. At our event, participants will hear direct from Access Panels about action they have taken that has led to real, positive change for disabled people in their communities.

At the end of last month Mid and East Antrim Borough Council held the first meeting of their new Disability Lived Experience Group.

It brought together local residents who will use their own lived experiences to help shape council services and make their borough more accessible and inclusive.
