Every year, the Royal Navy Submarine Service awards celebrate the best of the submarine service. This year, for the first time, a Royal Naval Reserve was not only shortlisted for, but won an award!

HMS President’s Lt Cdr Howie San won the Orpheus prize, which is awarded for the team or individual who have made a significant contribution to submarine safety either at sea or in the support arena. His nomination was for the support he has given to Submarine Advisory Teams (SAT) over both his long career on a variety of platforms, as well as the recent training he has given to SATs prior to their deployment, and Submarine Element Coordinators as the role is revitalised by the Royal Navy.

This is a huge achievement for Howie to be recognised alongside his regular counterparts both at sea and shoreside, and reflects the growing understanding of what the RNR Submarine Operations specialisation brings to the fleet. BZ Howie and enjoy the celebrations! 🫡⚓️
