🚢International Day for Women in Maritime♀️

Today, the IHO is joining the maritime community in recognizing the vital contributions of women to the maritime industry.

Although inequality persists, numerous initiatives, such as the Empowering Women in Hydrography project, are striving to encourage more women to enter the field.

Since the project's implementation in 2021, encouraging steps have been taken towards achieving gender balance in hydrography:
✨ Female national hydrographers increased from 7% to 10.5%
✨ Women chairing IHO bodies rose from 13% to 32%
✨ Women now serve as vice-chairs in 44% of IHO organs

From onboard operations to leadership and policy-making, diversity creates a more inclusive and innovative maritime industry.
