An incredible week of diplomacy and discourse at COTSC2026 in the Cayman Islands! 🇰🇾

The BVI London Office led by our Director and U.K. Representative, was honoured to support Speaker George Massicotte alongside global leaders and peers as they debated the future of parliamentary democracies.

From modernizing legislative transparency to maintaining civic trust, these timely discussions focused on empowering citizens in the Overseas Territories.

Key areas of focus included:
* Digital Era: Building resilient, adaptive governance.
* Bedrock Values: Protecting parliamentary representation.
* Global Learning: Shared insights on unique constitutional structures across British Overseas Territories and the Commonwealth.

Sun, Smiles & Island Vibes in London!

On 23 May, the BVI London Office turned up the heat with our Annual Summer BBQ—and what a day it was! Under an unusually hot, sunny British sky, residents and students travelled from across the UK (even as far as York!) to enjoy an afternoon filled with good food, great company, and plenty of laughter.

The atmosphere was truly special—old friends reunited, new connections made, and everyone taking time to catch up, share stories, and enjoy the moment. It was heartwarming to see so many familiar faces alongside students who’ve recently arrived in the UK, all coming together as one vibrant community.

Food lovers were in heaven with a delicious spread from Emerald Spice—BBQ chicken, rice and peas, johnny cakes, mac and cheese, fish in foil, hamburgers, plantains, corn and more! Sweet treats like coconut and pineapple tarts and red bellies (thanks to Javan “Bob” Hodge!) added the perfect finishing touch.

We were also honoured to welcome Hon. Sharie De Castro, Minister for Education, Youth Affairs and Sports, who took time to engage directly with students and residents, checking in, sharing updates, and having one-on-one conversations. Joined by Dr. Richard Georges, President of HLSCC, the visit highlighted meaningful connections between home and our diaspora. Mrs. Sherri Ortiz, Financial Services Envoy on special assignment to London, was also in attendance and took the time to greet and connect with members of the diaspora.

Guests also enjoyed face painting by Face Painting By Mariam, which added a fun and colourful touch to the day. The event wrapped up with games, laughter, and a spirited domino challenge led by the Minister—bringing the perfect close to a relaxed, festive day in the sun.

At the BVI London Office, we’re proud to support our students—including helping with travel to events—and even prouder to create spaces where our community can connect, unwind, and celebrate together.

On behalf of the Government and people of The Virgin Islands, Premier Dr. Natalio D. Wheatley extends heartfelt congratulations to The Honourable Philip Davis on a remarkable victory at the polls on May 12, 2026, marking the Progressive Liberal Party’s second consecutive electoral win.

Premier Wheatley commends The Bahamas for its leadership within CARICOM, for championing the collective interests of Overseas Territories and reaffirms the Government’s commitment to strengthening ties with The Bahamas.

Best wishes are extended for a successful and progressive term and we look forward to witnessing the continued development and transformation of The Bahamas under Honourable Davis’s leadership.
