Launch of corporate WhatsApp channel

This week we say farewell to the paper copy of and welcome to Royal Borough of Greenwich channel. Everyone is welcome to join here: royalgreenwich.gov.uk/follow-whatsapp or via the QR code below.

As WhatsApp is widely used in our community, this channel will allow us to reach out more effectively and provide timely information and support. We believe this is strategic in many ways, including being:

**Quick: WhatsApp allows us to send updates promptly, from emergencies to events and borough wide updates.
**Known: It is likely that many Royal Greenwich residents have and use WhatsApp daily, by utilising this, we can reach a greater audience. This may also be preferred to signing up to a newsletter.
**Free: Sending messages via WhatsApp is free, making it a cost-effective way for us to communicate and the immediacy is useful for emergencies and crisis management. It may also reduce the cost of printing and advertising if adopted widely.
**Engaging: We can share videos, images, and documents, to make our communications more engaging and informative. Residents will also be able to react to updates, allowing them to express their thoughts.
**Convenient: This is a low effort way for residents to keep engaged with their local council. We are going to a place where a lot of our residents already are rather than encourage them to a different platform.
**Reaching: WhatsApp messages are easily shareable, so subscribers will be able to forward our content to their networks.

The next phase of our WhatsApp launch will be a two-way channel for residents to communicate with our customer service team, logging issues and tracking the progress of tickets raised.

Did you know that if you are a Co-op member, you can choose Big Red Bus Club as your local cause. Then every time you shop in store they will donate 2p for every £1 you spend. It all adds up! Just in case you don’t know how to do it, here is a step by step guide. It takes about 3 minutes to set up. Thank you.
