Native to South America, especially countries like Brazil, Venezuela, and Colombia, capybaras are semi-aquatic mammals that spend a lot of time in rivers, lakes, and marshes. They’re built for it: webbed feet, eyes and ears positioned high on their heads, and the ability to stay underwater for several minutes.
What really sets them apart is their temperament. Capybaras are extremely social and tolerant—so much so that you’ll often see birds, monkeys, or even predators hanging out near them without conflict.
