Guarantee pay for all staff at UAL during COVID-19 crisis
We think it is shameful that UAL say they will not ensure full pay for all outsourced workers if they are unable to work for any reason associated with COVID-19 including closure. These workers already receive no full sick pay and are therefore under greater pressure to continue working, even if the...

AFTER HOURS OF WAITING OUTSIDE IN THE COLD THIS IS HOW STUDENTS RECEIVED THEIR BELONGINGS!! APPALLING AND UNFAIR!

The LCC Building has been evacuated due to a bomb threat. Students where asked to leave abruptly, leaving keys, passports and personal belongings in the occupation. London College of Communication are denying students access to their belongings! This is unsafe and unfair.

Little concern for the present students wellbeing and protection of their rights to protest has been shown by the Dean of Students Mark Crawley. Some of the “rules” he read of his notebook included denying us access to the toilets during the open hours of the building (8:30am - 9:30pm). This is an intimidating tactic being used by senior management to dissolve the occupation. If we leave the building we cannot rejoin the occupation at any time. Essentially the university is forcing us to chose between staying in the occupation or avoid using the toilet for 14 hours a day.
UAL have closed the shutter, taken down banners in the main area of the occupation and insisted we keep noise level to a minimum. Attempting to take away all visibility of the occupation. We refuse to leave until Senior management engage with our demands.
This occupation is in SUPPORT OF OUR OUTSOURCED STAFF. UAL management are pitting students and staff against each other. Rather than engaging in conversation themselves, they are using staff at the front desk to relay unfair and unrealistic restrictions.

Today Students at UAL entered into an occupation at LCC in support of the UCU strikes. As students we expect an equal, anti racist working and learning environment. We want the university to take responsibility for the most marginalised students and staff by:
- bringing ALL UAL cleaners in house
- To commit to implementing Mandatory Face to face anti-racist and mental health training by the beginning of the summer term.
We are demanding a clear concrete plan of action with regards to addressing the attainment gap and the BAME pay gap at UAL. This will include a timeline and an investigation of the BAME paygap with transparency at all stages of the decision-making.
- Make addressing the attainment gap a prepopulated target on every staff member’s yearly appraisals.
- increase the number of counselling and mental health appointments available to students per campus.
- employ five new councilors of color, trained in mental health and a specialism in anti-racism. (There are currently 25 mental health advisors in comparison to 18,000 students. This works out as 750 students to 1 advisor)
- Put an end to the social cleansing of Elephant and Castle by dissolving their partnership with shady, tax avoiding company Delancey.
UAL SHAME ON YOU!
