Sports can teach teamwork, discipline, and the confidence to keep going when things don't go our way. CRY UK's project teams use this to their advantage, helping children play, represent their communities at every level, and stay in school too.

Where playgrounds are limited, children reclaim spaces to play. Girls are challenging gender barriers too, drawing strength from the Children's Collectives. Because when children get to play, participate and lead, they build confidence both on and off the field, without stepping away from school.

This is the third part of our ‘How’ series, where we explore how the right support helps children overcome barriers, stay connected to education, and prepare for the future.

Support CRY UK to help more children stay in school while finding their confidence, voice and opportunities through sports.

Every child comes to school with a different starting point. Some are learning the basics for the first time. Others might be catching up on gaps in their learning. Without timely guidance, it can become harder for children to stay engaged in school if they fall behind.

At CRY UK’s remedial centres, trained teachers meet children where they are. They strengthen foundational skills, provide individual support in subjects children find difficult, help them catch up on missed learning and track their progress along the way. This timely support helps children address learning gaps before they become a barrier to staying in school.

This is the second part of our ‘How’ series, where we explore how the right support helps children overcome barriers, stay connected to education, and prepare for the future.

Support CRY UK to help more children enter, return to and stay in school.

A device doesn't fix everything. But without one, a child can start several steps behind.

For children growing up without access to technology, the digital divide poses a risk of being left behind. CRY UK’s project teams facilitate access to computers and digital learning opportunities for children from underserved communities.

From learning how to use spreadsheets and editing tools to understanding cyber safety basics, care is taken to ensure children can keep up with their peers and be future-ready.

This is the first part of our ‘How’ series, where we explore how the right support helps children overcome barriers, stay connected to education, and prepare for the future.

Support CRY UK and help give children the skills they need today for tomorrow’s opportunities.

For Renu*, staying in school meant standing up against a decision that had already been made for her: marriage. At 17, she had been taken out of Grade 10 as her family began planning her wedding.

During a community visit, the CRY project team stepped in. They spoke with her parents about the ills of child marriage and the importance of continuing her education. When her parents remained hesitant, the team brought together Panchayat members, local leaders and frontline health workers to build support around the family.

Their collective efforts helped change the family’s decision. Renu’s marriage was called off, and her parents pledged not to marry her before the legal age.

Today, Renu has appeared for her Grade 10 board examinations and completed a six-month computer course at CRY’s Digital Literacy Centre. At least three other girls at risk of early marriage were also protected from child marriage.

What if one helping hand could change the course of a child’s future?

At 13, Sagun was being raised by her father, who worked long hours in a tea garden to support the family. With no dependable caregiver at home, she took over household responsibilities beyond her years. Her education began to take a backseat and she became highly irregular in attending her Grade 8 classes.

When CRY UK's project team identified her at risk of dropping out, they stepped in. They connected her to CRY’s Child Activity Centre (CAC), where she received personalised learning support and consistent guidance to close her learning gaps, regular assessments to track her progress, and Life Skills sessions to rebuild her confidence and voice.

Today, she attends classes regularly, continues learning at CRY's CAC, and encourages other girls in her community to stay in school too.

Support CRY UK and be the helping hand children need to stay in school. (Link in bio)
