“A new cabinet has been announced for Ealing Council following the local elections on Thursday 7 May, which saw the Labour Party win a majority of the seats in the council.
Councillor Peter Mason appointed the new cabinet members as leader of the council. Councillor Louise Brett stays in post as deputy leader and cabinet member for safe and genuinely affordable homes.
In addition to the leader there are 9 cabinet members, each with a specific area of responsibility (a portfolio) and they are accountable for the council's decisions.
The cabinet members and their portfolios are:
🌹Councillor Jasbir Anand, tackling crime and antisocial behaviour
🌹Councillor Steve Donnelly, inclusive economy and efficiency
🌹Councillor Paul Driscoll, healthy equal lives
🌹Councillor Monica Hamidi, good growth
🌹Councillor Blerina Hashani, fairer start
🌹Councillor Dominic Moffitt, climate action
🌹Councillor Kamaljit Kaur Nagpal, decent living incomes
🌹Councillor Lauren Wall, thriving communities
Leader of Ealing Council, Peter Mason, said: “Over the next four years, our focus is on delivering the things residents have told us matter most to them. Whether that is thousands of more genuinely affordable homes, tens of thousands extra jobs, more trees and parks, better roads and pavements, great schools and transformed social care, our track record of delivering on the promises we make has been, and will continue to be, the hallmark of how we go about our business.
“We will continue to ensure we run our council with ruthless efficiency, keeping council tax as low as possible whilst investing in the things that matter most.
“Our values will be at the heart of our decisions. Ensuring that everything we do supports and builds families and community networks to help and support one another during good times and bad. Ensuring every part of our borough, in every one of our 7 towns gets to benefit from a growing economy and a better standard of living. Ensuring everybody has the power and control over their own life and their community, and can play their full part in deciding our collective future.”
Cabinet members' roles involve initiating policy, making decisions, acting as spokespeople and sharing collective responsibility for decisions taken by the cabinet.
The first cabinet meeting of the new administration will take place on Wednesday 10 June.
The Labour Party secured 46 of the 70 seats on the council, giving it an overall majority, which means they will control the council for the next 4 years until 2030.”
