Today marks exactly 80 years since aviation history was made just down the road from us! ✈️
On the blustery morning of May 28th, 1946, the very first fare-paying passengers walked out onto the tarmac to board the BOAC-Qantas "Kangaroo" flight bound for Australia, the first-ever commercial flight from Heathrow. 🦘
Just three days later on May 31st, the airport officially opened its commercial operations with a flight to New York. 🗽
Swipe through to see some fantastic pieces from our archive collections, including vintage pages from Heathrow’s 25th and 50th Anniversary history projects! 🌍
