From our UWL archives, this charming 1970s image from Heathrow in Pictures shows Tega, a two-month-old Siamese cat, setting off on a journey to a new home in Canada. ✈️

Behind the scenes, Heathrow’s on-site RSPCA hostel managed an extraordinary 934,364 live creatures in 1971 alone, from insects and fish to much-loved pets like Tega. 🏨

Forming part of the Planetary Foods and Cultural Competence Project, Future Plates, Future Chefs brought together Ealing residents, health professionals, community groups, students and food-sector partners to re-imagine how traditional diets can support both human health and the planet.

Today marks exactly 80 years since aviation history was made just down the road from us! ✈️

On the blustery morning of May 28th, 1946, the very first fare-paying passengers walked out onto the tarmac to board the BOAC-Qantas "Kangaroo" flight bound for Australia, the first-ever commercial flight from Heathrow. 🦘

Just three days later on May 31st, the airport officially opened its commercial operations with a flight to New York. 🗽

Earlier this term, UWL Law students travelled to The Hague for a unique opportunity to visit two of the world’s leading international law institutions: the International Criminal Court and the Peace Palace. ⚖️🌍

The trip gave students first-hand insight into international justice, helping bring legal theory to life beyond the classroom through guided tours, discussions, and cultural experiences in both The Hague and Amsterdam.
