We’re proud to announce that the City of London Police, in partnership with PwC, has been recognised with an award for the rollout of the new national cyber crime and fraud reporting service, Report Fraud.

The award was presented in the ‘Data Transformation of the Year’ category at this year’s British Data Awards.

The judge praised ‘the standard of entry in this section, combining exceptional public value, hard evidence of impact and a highly compelling narrative’.

At a time where cyber crime and fraud account for nearly half of all UK crime, this service set out to improve the process in which victims report cyber crime and fraud and how intelligence is used to disrupt criminal activity. The result is a modern, victim-centred service built to meet today’s challenges and adapt to future threats.

Since the launch of the Report Fraud service in December 2025, the impact has been significant:

- Abandoned calls reduced from 34 per cent to five per cent
- Calls answered around five times faster than the previous service
- Report processing time reduced by roughly 32 days
- Faster information sharing and increased disruption of criminal networks

Beyond the numbers, this transformation has always focused around delivering a clearer, more supportive experience for victims, while enabling officers and staff to focus on what matters most.

This achievement is welcomed and reflects the strength of partnership, innovation, and a shared commitment to improving outcomes for the public. With a platform designed to evolve, the service has capabilities to adapt to new technologies such as AI.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in making this happen!

A man who kicked the wing mirror off a police car outside of Bishopsgate Police station has been sentenced.

Adam Bachir-Belmehdi, 21, of McGrath Road, Stratford was caught in 4k and then by the City of London Police officers after he tried to get away.

The damage caused to the police car meant that the City of London Police had a marked vehicle off the road for five days, which as a result, could have had a detrimental impact on responding to emergency 999 calls.

Before his mindless criminal damage to an emergency vehicle, Bachir-Belmehdi was seen eating his takeaway on the bonnet. He was soon taken away into custody and got his just desserts.

We have worked with partners to disrupt online fraud networks as part of a major international operation, leading to 31 arrests across the UK and Nigeria.

This activity formed part of an intelligence-led effort bringing together law enforcement and industry, including the National Crime Agency (NCA), the Cyber Defence Alliance and the Nigerian police. By combining expertise and sharing data, we have been able to identify offenders earlier, better understand the threat, and take coordinated action to prevent further harm.

Today we launch our Safer City Streets initiative with the unveiling of a network of newly branded police boxes across the Square Mile, each featuring police officers who patrol the square mile on foot and bike.

The branded police boxes modernise the former “ring of steel” for 2026 and create a highly visible policing presence at strategic locations across the City.

New figures released today as part of the campaign show that nearly a third of all shoplifting reports in the City of London resulted in a positive outcome, with 31 per cent of the 1,400 shoplifting offences recorded in 2025/26 leading to an arrest, charge or conviction.

The most up to date national figures for shoplifting offences in England and Wales show that on average 18.5 per cent resulted in a positive outcome.
