A few days back, the branch was contacted by local funeral directors, to support the funeral of a 100 year old WWII veteran, ATS Sgt, Doris Goss who had no immediate family. We are proud to say, that the branch gave her fine send off.
A branch member Terry, who was unable to attend, summed it all up with these lovely words. God bless Doris.

I was unable to honour the life of Sgt Doris Goss, ex ATS, who served her country with pride as a Clerk in the British Army.
Although many of us never had the chance to know Doris personally, and although she had no family or close circle around her in her later years, she was one of ours. Today proved something powerful that the bond between veterans does not fade with time, distance, or circumstance. When one of our own reaches their final posting, they are never left to march out alone.
Your presence, your respect, and the Standards carried with such dignity ensured that Doris was seen off with the honour she earned. It is moments like this that remind us why the veteran community matters so deeply. We stand for each other, even when the world has grown quiet around someone’s name.
Doris has now been carried to the big NAAFI in the sky, where no one queues, the brews are always hot, and old comrades are waiting to welcome her home.♥️🇬🇧🙏

David and Len have known each other for many years, and meet on a regular basis to discuss veteran related topics in Royal Greenwich and its surrounding London Borough's. Len is Armed Forces Champion for Greater London, as well Chairman of City Hall Branch Royal British Legion. He was given a well deserved peerage to The House of Lords in January.
