Don’t get cold water shock this summer!

With temperatures rising in , we know how tempting it can be to jump into open water - but please don’t.

Cold water shock is dangerous and life-threatening.

If you or someone you know is in trouble in the water, float on your back, keep calm, and call 999 or signal for help.

Our Hazardous Area Response team work closely alongside our colleagues at London Fire Brigade to help save lives on or near the river, and you can too by staying out of the water.

For more information on water safety, visit the RNLI website.

We are extremely busy 🚨

Yesterday, our 999 control room received over 8,000 calls, the busiest day since the Covid-19 pandemic with record number of calls from 2pm until midnight.

As London is facing soaring temperatures, we are urging Londoners to help us by only calling 999 in a life-threatening emergency. Consider using your GP and NHS 111 or NHS 111 online.

Alison Blakely, our Deputy Chief Paramedic, said:

“We want people to enjoy the weather but please take steps to look after yourselves and others around you.

“As the weather is set to stay hot for the rest of the week, our message to the public is to stay safe in the heat, drink plenty of fluids, avoid excess alcohol, stay out of the sun between 11am-3pm and check in on those who are vulnerable, including those over 65, young children and those with pre-existing health conditions."

“You have equipped us with skills which we hope will never need yet we are deeply glad to have. We learned so much and we are very grateful to you personally and to the LAS.”

Lovely words from Kelly Street Residents Association (KSRA) who recently received life-saving CPR training from Sam, a Community Resuscitation Trainer and member of our London Lifesavers team.

Learning a life-saving skill like CPR can help save someone’s life.

If you would like to host a CPR training session in your community, head to our London Lifesavers webpage and contact the team.

It’s shaping up to be a hot few days in the capital!

We know that you may fancy a drink or two in the sun, but please be careful.

Rhys from our Emergency Control room highlights that drinking too much alcohol too quickly in one go can be dangerous.

If you are heading out this weekend, please drink responsibly, eat food before you drink and have plenty of water.

Remember, only call 999 in a life-threatening emergency.

For all, urgent medical advice please call NHS 111 online or via phone.
