What a lovely half term! We managed to go rockpooling & I can’t decide which was my favourite find… what do you think?

Don’t worry - we aren’t! They’re very busy doing their own thing to bother us. Their nest will only be here for the summer and then the new queens will overwinter/hibernate. They are wonderful to watch whilst they’re here though! 🥰

I also am fully Forest school trained if you have a base on-site. Alternatively we have a local wildlife session which includes a selection from my pond & garden as well as their bigger exotic cousins. 🪲 🐌 🦎

My son celebrated his birthday at school but totally threw me when I asked what he did by saying ‘we watched a story about the boy…you know, the one who turned 100!’ A great reminder that we were all kids once - and this is the time to inspire them about nature 🥰

Sir David Attenborough celebrates his one hundredth birthday today. His career, spanning seven decades, has been transformative in the world of conservation and wildlife film-making. He continues to inspire current and future generations to take care of the natural world around them, a message that he highlighted this year in his most recent documentaries, Wild London and Secret Garden.

The season of stagbeetles has started! Don’t forget you don’t need many sticks to make a den - could be a den for a fairy or beetle?

We were so lucky to see all these newts in our local pond at the weekend! I think they are smooth newts as the males had crests (but were small). We also saw pond skaters, dragonfly nymphs & damselfly nymphs. Have you seen anything surprising near you?

This is often my go-to song when an Early year’s class gets a bit too wriggly during a workshop. But I love singing it so I think it’s suitable up to 45 years old 😁 Great for learning about the life cycle of a caterpillar too if you’ve read the hungry caterpillar too much 😉

We’re at Shorne Woods country park today with some very brave parents (the children are always brave!). Hope to see you soon! 🪲🐞🐜🪳🕷️
