ART FESTIVAL OPENING TODAY | OOIDONK ART FESTIVAL
Organised by Francis Maere Fine Arts
Pleased to take part in the fifth edition of the Ooidonk Art Festival, where more than 30 Belgian, Dutch and French artists present works spread across the 17th-century estate Goed te Réables in Ooidonk (Deinze).

See my bronze sculptures 'The brain of the 1st of May' (2018) & 'Brain with miniature tree' (2011) presented alongside works by Wim Delvoye, Johan Creten, Dirk Braeckman, Koen Vanmechelen, Kris Martin, Herman De Vries, Nick Ervinck, Eugène Dodeigne, Vincent Barré, and Nicolas Alquin, and many others.

"Our brain has a cortex and a stem. In Dutch, the cortex is called schors, or bark, and the brainstem is called the stam, or trunk. In that sense, it is not entirely unnatural for a miniature tree to sprout up from the space between the two hemispheres of the brain...Like the brain, the miniature tree is a perfect result of the interaction between nature and culture." - Nadia Sels / From text 'Jan Fabre: CHALCOSOMA: Small bronzes 2006–2012' / Published by Guy Pieters Gallery

Festival Dates: 18 June – 30 August 2026
Open Thursday to Sunday, 14:00 – 19:00

Now on view at the Biblioteca Bernardini di Lecce: JAN FABRE. BORROWED TIME.
Accompanying the opening of the JAN FABRE ARCHIVE AND TEACHING CENTRE, Curated by Giacinto Di Pietrantonio, the exhibition BORROWED TIME brings together more than 200 works, including Jan Fabre's theatre drawings and theatrical photographs by Robert Mapplethorpe, Helmut Newton, Dirk Braeckman and Jorge Molder.

Together, these works reveal the enduring dialogue between theatre and visual art that has defined Fabre's oeuvre for decades.

These celebrated photographers reveal different dimensions of Fabre's theatrical universe, capturing the body as a site of transformation, memory and ritual. Together, their images create a powerful dialogue between performance and visual art, inviting visitors into a world where time appears suspended.

On view until 9 May 2027.
Organized by the Polo Biblio-Museale of Lecce (Museo Castromediano - Lecce) with the support of Mucciaccia Gallery, Rome and Cortina d’Ampezzo

In 1987 Helmut Newton photographed the Troubleyn/Jan Fabre performance 'Das Glas im Kopf wird vom Glas (The Dance Sections)'. Scenography, choreography: Jan Fabre. Composer: Henryk Mikołaj Górecki.

In Photo: Dutch dancer Maria Voortman.

"Jan Fabre’s latest series of works includes brilliant coral sculptures, as if ready to be offered to a temple, and blood drawings. The practice of comprehension of the mystery makes him dialogue with the artists and alchemists of the Renaissance, who tried to explain both the enigma of human formation and the origin of art on the basis of laboratory research, as well as with those religious writers who tried to understand the essence of the sacrament of marriage, one of the five (or seven) great sacraments, through the detailed study of sanctified texts." - Dimitri Ozerkov | ALLEGORY OF CARITAS (An Act of Love) Exhibition catalogue*

See JAN FABRE’S 'ALLEGORY OF CARITAS (AN ACT OF LOVE)' at 21 ART Montecarlo.
Open until 11 September 2026
Curated by Melania Rossi.
