I Thee Wed - A talk by Nadine Licence

Friday 19 June
1pm-2pm

Join library assistant Nadine Licence in the library or online as she takes a look at how marriage has been regulated and recorded over the years in England, from Thomas Cromwell’s reforms in the 1530s, through centuries of church record keeping, and to Civil Registration. She’ll also be showing some of the interesting things you can find in the documents, where a simple marriage record can tell a story far bigger than just two names and a date.

This event will be delivered both in-person and online. Book your free tickets at shoelaneevents.eventbrite.co.uk

If you have a disability you wish us to consider when attending our events, please inform the staff in advance.

Would you like to learn new skills, meet new people and do something positive for your community?

Volunteering at City FOOD Club – which supports people who are finding it hard to afford healthy, nutritious food – is a great way to make a real difference.

You’ll be welcoming people, helping them as they shop and making sure stock is shared fairly. No previous experience is required and training is provided.

Volunteer shifts:
• Thursdays, 12.30–3.30pm
• Fridays, 4.30–7pm
Location: Artizan Street Library and Community Centre - City of London Libraries

The scheme is run by the charity Family Action, with support from the Community Infrastructure Levy Neighbourhood Fund, administered by the City Corporation using contributions from new developments in the City.

If you’re interested in volunteering, please email [email protected]
