The Police Treatment Centres’ AGM was well attended today but there was one person we were especially pleased to see.

Baroness Angela Harris is a good friend to this Federation and a long-term supporter of the police service.

Police Federation reps, Trustees, and supporters of The Police Treatment Centres are taking part in a 12-hour padelathon to raise money for the charity.

On Friday 14 August, the group will play padel tennis continuously for twelve hours at St Andrews, the charity’s treatment centre in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. They will play on the centre’s newly opened padel court, built during a recent investment in the charity’s wellbeing facilities.

To make the challenge even more difficult, during time off the court, players will take turns cycling on static bikes. The aim of this side quest is to cover 210 miles – the distance between St Andrews and Castlebrae, the treatment centre in Perthshire, Scotland - as many times as possible.

The challenge was conjured up by our Chair, Stuart Cowan. He said: We are all big supporters of the Police Treatment Centres and have seen at first-hand the amazing work they do to help officers recover from physical injuries and mental health challenges.

“The charity relies on donations to provide its life-changing services, so in order to raise as much money as possible, we really wanted to test ourselves. The padelathon will be tiring, but adding the cycling challenge takes it to another level.”

Appalling news this morning from our colleagues in Northern Ireland.

It's hard to comprehend what goes through the mind of everyone involved in an incident like this. Our thoughts are with the seriously injured officer, and we hope they make a full recovery.

News Release: Federation condemns ‘appalling and deliberate attack’ on officer

The attempted murder of a police officer in Downpatrick has been condemned by the Chair of the Police Federation for Northern Ireland Liam Kelly.

Mr Kelly said: “This was an appalling and deliberate attack. I wish to add my condemnation to that already expressed across the community. What happened in Downpatrick was shocking and brutal.

“From what I’ve seen online, this appears to have been a calculated and dangerous driving act with no effort made to slow down or avoid the officer.

"My thoughts, and those of every officer in the PSNI, are with our seriously injured colleague and his loved ones.

“This incident graphically illustrates the risks our officers face as they work to safeguard communities and confront law-breakers.”

BTP Federation Lottery players raise thousands for good causes 27/05/2026

Are you connected to a charity, community group or sports club that could do with a financial boost?

Last year, players of the BTP Federation lottery raised more than £21,000 for charities and good causes. The sum represents half of the proceeds from the Federation lottery, with the other half distributed as prizes to lottery winners.

Grants like these make a massive difference to small, grassroots organisations, and lottery members can nominate good causes to receive such support.

72% of EuroCOP members say that stigma is the biggest barrier to members accessing mental health support.

Our Chair, Stuart Cowan, is leading EuroCOP’s new Mental Well-Being Group. A passionate advocate for officer health and wellbeing, Stuart and the group’s first step was to canvas members about the challenges they face.

The survey results revealed worrying statistics, including how only 14% of member employer organisations identify and respond to early signs of stress, trauma or burnout.

Clearly, there is still work to do.

As well as championing wellbeing in their individual forces, members of the Mental Well-Being Group are collaborating Europe-wide.

Stuart Cowan said: Together, we are not just raising awareness. We are shaping a culture where the wellbeing of every police officer is valued, protected, and strengthened. United in our commitment, we have the ability to create lasting change for colleagues across Europe."
