Camden Federation of Private Tenants

Camden Federation of Private Tenants is the voice of private renters in the borough. You don't have to love us, but a "Like" will do very nicely.

We have a very broad definition of who is a private tenant and it includes:

Private renters
Housing association residents
Leaseholders (private flat owners)

If you're renting in Camden, and are aged between 18 and 35 years old, we'd love to hear how you've been finding it, and how we can improve our communications and services for renters.

Minister condemns landlords over 'eviction rush' weeks before non-fault eviction ban.

At CFPT we've been approached by several people whose landlords are cynically trying to evict them before the ban comes in on May 1st

If you are affected by this, please don't hesitate to contact us for support.

A few weeks ago I posted about Criterion Capital who were cynically handing out 'no fault' Section 21 evictions to hundreds of tenants ahead of the Renters' Rights Act coming into force.

Well according to the Guardian, (see link below) they now have the chutzpah to deny that they were trying to carry out mass evictions. Apparently, when they sent out all the notices, they were just implementing 'routine and lawful tenancy management['.

Sadly, in my work with the Private Renters' Project, I've been approached by numerous tenants whose landlords are making a last ditch attempt to evict them before Section 21 becomes illegal on May 1

Billionaire halts mass eviction after London Centric investigation 24/02/2026

This had to be one of the most cynical decisions ever. Just a few days ago, the billionaire and supposed philanthropist Asif Azaz joined London Mayor Sadiq Khan for the ceremonial switching on of London's Ramadan lights.

Sadiq Khan was not aware at the time that Asif Azaz;s company - Criterion Capital had been sending literally hundreds of Section 21 notices to tenants across South London ahead of the ban on no fault evictions due to take effect on May 1st.

Thankfully, these notices have now been shelved after a direct intervention from the mayor's office.

This has to be the scandal of the week. When I think of cynical, heartless landlords, I don't expect them to be a charity whose raison d'etre is to support war veterans and make the poppies we wear on Remembrance Day. Yet the Poppy Poppy Factory has put up rents for struggling long term tenants by up to £700 per month ahead of the Renters Rights Act.

Renters' Rights Act 'significant' for Londoners – if local authorities enforce it - The Fitzrovia News 10/02/2026

Phase 1 of the Renters' Rights Act is coming into force in lest than three months. This includes the end of the controversial 'no fault evictions'.

However, the provisions of the RAA are only as good as the councils who enforce it. From my work with the Private Renters Project (privaterentersproject.org) I know that Camden Council has invested significant resources. However, it seems that other London boroughs are less well prepared.
