I’ve been working on something deeply personal.
My book, Bend Not Break, has been the most challenging project I’ve ever undertaken, mainly because it contains more of me than anything I’ve created before.
What you don’t always see is what’s shaped me behind the scenes: the experiences, the highs and lows, and the reality of building a business while raising a one-year-old and a three-year-old.
At its heart, this book is about resilience.
Not just how we build it for ourselves, but how we develop it within our teams, because life doesn’t stop when you’re running a business.
So many business owners appear to have it all together, but like all of us, they’re navigating their own challenges too.
Bend Not Break brings those realities together. Because resilience isn’t just about bouncing back, it’s about keeping going while everything is happening at once.
My hope is to help people build a more sustainable way of working and living, where they know when to ask for help and how to support others too.
If you’d like early access, the first chapter will be released to an exclusive group on 9th June.

You told me interview questions are the problem.
Interesting… because interview questions are only as good as what you’re actually trying to assess.
So now I’m curious 👇
Where does hiring really start to go wrong for you?
Is it…
🔹 Pre-screening questions
🔹 Assessing knowledge and skills
🔹 Judging capability (can they actually do the job?)
🔹 Understanding values and behaviours (will they fit and thrive?)
Because here’s what I see all the time:
Businesses focus on the interview stage…
…but the real issue started way before the candidate even showed up.
Let’s get honest about where the breakdown really is.
👇 Vote in the poll and I’ll share practical fixes based on the results.

I was taught early in my HR career to keep a poker face.
Be professional. Stay composed. Leave personal matters at the door.
And for years, I did.
But writing Bend, Not Break challenged me to go deeper, to share not just what I know, but how I know it.
Because resilience isn’t built in a classroom.
It’s built in the moments you don’t plan for.
Like supporting clients from a hospital chair while my mum had cancer treatment.
Or juggling home schooling during the pandemic, while still leading and making decisions that impact livelihoods.
Not because it was easy, but because leadership rarely is.
That experience reshaped how I see resilience:
not pushing through at all costs, but adapting, setting boundaries, and continuing without losing yourself.
That’s what Bend, Not Break is about.
Real leadership. Real pressure. Real people.
I’m opening a small pre-reading team ahead of launch.

Because resilience isn’t about a poker face.
It’s about bending, without breaking.

Many small businesses start by hiring friends, family, or trusted contacts and running things informally, often without contracts or HR processes.
It can feel like a close, family-style environment, but this approach creates hidden risk.
Without clear policies, documentation, and fair procedures, businesses are exposed to legal challenges such as employment tribunals, even when intentions are good.
These disputes can be costly, time-consuming, and damaging to reputation.
HR is often seen as something for later, but risk begins the moment you hire anyone.
Putting proper structures in place early protects your business, your team, and supports sustainable, confident growth.

After a long weekend, it’s important to make sure your team has properly switched off and had time to rest. That means no emails, no messages, unless it’s truly urgent.
Because health is more than just physical - it’s mental too.
Wellbeing isn’t just about time off, it’s about protecting that time.
As a manager, your role is to set the tone. Here’s how:
1️⃣ Respect boundaries: Avoid out-of-hours contact unless necessary.
2️⃣ Check in: See how your team is feeling, not just what they’re doing.
3️⃣ Lead by example: Take breaks and use your own leave.
4️⃣ Keep it human: Small, genuine moments build trust.
5️⃣ Make support visible: Signpost wellbeing resources clearly.
💡 Supporting mental health isn’t a tick-box exercise; it’s about creating a culture where people feel rested, respected, and supported.

Q1 Is Ending… But the Real Shift Starts in April
As we close out the first quarter, many businesses are focused on results, performance reviews, and planning for the months ahead.
But April isn’t just the start of a new quarter; it marks a significant shift in the employment landscape, as we begin to see the Employment Rights Act 2025 come into full effect.
Expectations around fairness, transparency, and accountability are no longer just best practice—they’re quickly becoming the standard.
While it’s easy to stay focused on day-to-day demands, moments like this are critical to step back and ask: is your business ready for this shift?
It’s important to ensure your HR systems are up to date, your policies reflect the latest changes, and your managers are confident and trained on what’s required of them.
The businesses that will thrive are the ones taking action now - reviewing, refining, and preparing before issues arise.

This past weekend, I took on and honestly, it was a great and motivating experience.
For those who aren’t familiar, is a mix of endurance and functional fitness that tests everything: strength, stamina, grit, and mental resilience. But doing it with my teammate? That’s what really elevates the whole experience.
Running side by side, pushing through each station together, and constantly checking in to keep each other motivated and focused.
And the key rule? Partners must start, run, and finish together. No one gets left behind.
What really stayed with me wasn’t just the physical challenge, it was the power of teamwork. The constant encouragement, the unspoken understanding when things got tough, and the shared accountability to keep going.
It reminded me how important the right environment is when building teams at work.
When people feel supported, motivated, and aligned, performance follows. Because strong teams aren’t just built on capability; they’re built on trust, communication, and the ability to lift each other when it matters most.
That’s what creates a culture where people don’t just show up… they push further, together.
