This Wednesday 14 October, the ICO’s Executive Director, Vanusia Nogueira, was present in Rome for the launch of Italy’s international coffee strategy at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The event convened a broad coalition of stakeholders to advance collaboration across the coffee supply chain. These included the Prime Minister of Uganda, Robinah Nabbanja; the Ministers of Agriculture of Kenya, Mutahi Kagwe, and Colombia, Indalecio Dangond; FAO’s Deputy Director-General, Maurizio Martina; the Deputy Director-General of UNIDO, Marina Ponti; the President of the Italian Coffee Committee and Chairman of the Lavazza Group, Giuseppe Lavazza; the President of illyCaffè, Andrea Illy; the World Bank Group; and leading Italian coffee companies.
Italy’s strategy combines the ACT Coffee initiative, supporting sustainable transformation in African coffee sectors in partnership with the ICO and UNIDO, with the Global Coffee Initiative, designed to mobilize public and private investment in producing countries through the World Bank Group and Cassa Depositi e Prestiti.
