Happy Salamanca Day!
Today is the Regimental Day of The Rifles - 22 July, the date of the Battle of Salamanca in 1812.
The Battle of Salamanca is a significant occasion in the history of The Rifles as all our former Regiments took part. The battle is described by historians as Wellington’s finest victory and the turning point in the Peninsula Campaign. It highlighted his brilliance as an offensive general as he beat 40,000 Frenchmen in 40 minutes. The record of the Light Division in the Peninsula War has rarely been surpassed and is justly seen as a memorial to Sir John Moore, the father of the Regiment.
Our ancestors of 1812 set high standards of discipline, courage, initiative and decisive action; and the British attacks can aptly be described as Swift & Bold, providing a fine example for us today to follow.
For these reasons it is chosen as the Regimental Day of THE RIFLES.

Navigation is of paramount importance to Light Role Infantry. Practising the fundamentals often amongst the newest Riflemen ensures we do not experience skill fade when operating on exercise or operations.
Here Riflemen in Fireteams are individually navigating across several RV’s across a 25km route.
At F Company we continue to train our core skill sets as Riflemen weekly. Those aged between 18- 43 who wish to serve in a Light-Role Infantry Unit in London should come visit us in Hammersmith or get in touch at 0208 563 2333, or DM us here.

They have passed the ardous course in some of the most austere recent conditions.
Undertaking section attacks and working up way up to platoon size attacks. As well as also undertaking Fighting in wooded areas and Fighting in urban areas.
Continually being tested in command appointments and fine tuning their skills in more complex environments; they have passed the tests to become Section Commanders.

Happy Salamanca day to all Riflemen! Recall that with pride the actions of your ancestors on this day, the toast is Salamanca!
Today in the year 1812 the Duke of Wellington executed one of his most stunning victories over the French forces during the Peninsula War in Spain and Portugal. It highlighted his brilliance as an offensive general as he beat 40,000 Frenchmen in 40 minutes.
All forming regiments of The Rifles had antecedents who fought in this action and were instrumental in defeating the French led by Marshal Auguste Marmont.
Our ancestors of 1812 set high standards of discipline, courage, initiative and decisive action; and the British attacks can aptly be described as Swift & Bold, providing a fine example for us today to follow!
For these reasons it is chosen as the Regimental Day of THE RIFLES!
