London Guards Army Reserve

17 Company, Coldstream Guards, are Reserve soldiers of .

Based in close to the station, Reservists fit their paid military training around their day jobs.

We are Civil Servants, shop workers, mechanics, accountants, builders and countless other professions.

But one evening a week and one weekend a month, we are something more: Infanteers and ceremonial soldiers who wear the iconic red tunic and Bearskin!

Last Tuesday Reservists from 1 London Guards undertook the annual Junior Officers Drill Test. This event included:

Comd Officers Opening Brief.
Inspection.
Drill Test and Inspection Round Robin.
Regimental History Test.
Comd Officers Closing Address.
Drinks.

This year Lt WARD and 2Lt MACGINTY lead by Lt BATH (all Ypres Company) came top in the Bn Junior Officers Drill Test.

Afterwards all popped into the Officers Mess for a few well deserved drinks, although not all could control their Merlot!

On the 14th May 2026 the Officers of the London Guards and members of the London Regiment Association attended the Anzio Dinner at the prestigious Cavalry & Guards Club in London. This dinner is a very important annual event for all concerned. As is customary, many guests were invited and all had a fantastic time. Anzio Day on 14 May is the Regimental Day, when we are honoured to remember all the men of Anzio, who's sacrifice and steadfast courage underpinned and made possible that achievement. This day was chosen as the battle involved forebears of all the original (1993) identities:

42nd Royal Tank Regiment (formally 7th (23rd London) Battalion The East Surrey Regiment).
2/5th, 2/6th and 2/7th Battalions The Queens Royal Regiment (West Surrey).
8th and 9th Battalion The Middlesex Regiment (Duke of Cambridge's Own).
1st Battalion The London Scottish Regiment.
1st Battalion The London Irish Rifles.

In addition, the following (affiliated) Regiments took part:

5th Battalion Grenadier Guards.
1st Battalion Scots Guards.
1st Battalion Irish Guards.
1st Battalion The Buffs (East Kent Regiment).
2nd Battalion The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.
6th Battalion The Gordon Highlanders.

What did you get up to this past weekend? Reserve Soldiers & Officers from 1 London Guards were conducting Spring Drills, a process whereby the Soldiers and Officers will practice various drill movements (marching, halting, saluting, weapon drill etc) as well as inspection of Home Service Clothing (the world renowned red tunics and bearskins).

The Commanding Officer (who himself is an Ex Regular Parachute Regiment Officer) commented "As ever the Gdsm dug out. They make me so proud, their drive and determination is humbling. Its such an honour and good fun!"

It was also the Commanding Officers honour to promote two members of the Battalion to acting Sgts. Sgt Brown (Ex Regular Scots Guards) and Sgt Wong who are both members of G (MESSINES) Company based in Clapham Junction received their promotions in front of the other Battalion Members.

Being a Reserve Soldier or Officer in 1 London Guards means we hone our skills in a variety of ways and in a multitude of different environments. We will train on the ranges to improve our marksmanship, in rolling landscapes to practice Section and Platoon Attacks, in the Urban environment to clear buildings and other infrastructure and in woodland to close with and destroy the enemy in a close proximity environment. Always pushing ourselves, always aiming to win and always working as a team.

Today marked an historic event. Today members of 1 London Guards provided a Guard Mount at Windsor Castle. This is the first time Reserve Guardsmen have conducted this duty in this location. All those involved carried out their duties to the highest order and were immaculate.

This past weekend the Battalion was in Windsor preparing for their role in The Kings Birthday Parade.
The Officers and Soldiers conducted spring drills, sharpening their turnout, bearing and accuracy on the Parade Square.
