Learn how to grow Hackney Salad - and much more besides...

Growing Communities is recruiting this year's crop of urban growing trainees. Learn all about growing vegetables - especially salad leaves - at our urban market gardens in Hackney.

The (unpaid) traineeship involves one day a week, plus monthly evening tutorials. Runs from the second half of March until the end of September.

Our Story

Growing Communities' ultra-local mixed Hackney Salad is grown on our organic Patchwork Farm sites in parks and on estates, church land and gardens around the east London borough. It's then hand-picked and delivered by bike for Growing Communities’ organic veg bag scheme or to local shops and restaurants, so it's super-fresh and very tasty. You can buy it at several Hackney shops or eat it at cafes and restaurants around the borough. Over the year, we grow more than 123 varieties of leaf and flower, and any one bag will probably contain more than 30 different types of leaf.
